Hey everyone! Father’s Day is right around the corner, and everyone knows Dads are notoriously hard to buy gifts for, much less find something that is cute, easy to make and cheap, right?
We had our grandsons this weekend, and I know how much the older grandson (he’s 10) likes to make things that are special for his Dad, so I came up with a Father’s Day gift that was fast, easy and free! I had everything I needed to make this cute little sign already, including the plate stand. If you don’t have a plate stand and don’t want to buy one, you can add a ribbon to the back and it can be hung.
All you need are wooden popsicle sticks, paints and markers in different colors, paint brushes, glue and something to adhere the sticks to. In my case I had some tin tiles that I received as samples when I was trying to decide what I wanted to do with our kitchen island, but you can use almost anything…a picture frame would work nicely or even cardboard in a pinch.
Step 1: Paint the sticks using acrylic paints that have been thinned. After applying the paint, wipe some off. You want the paint finish to be slightly uneven. Let dry.
Step 2: Have your child write the top ten things they love about their Dad using contrasting markers on the sticks.
Step 3: Glue sticks to whatever you’re using as a backing. Add ribbon to the back for hanging if needed.
That’s all there is to it! Not including the drying time for the paint, this little project took about 15 minutes. And what Dad wouldn’t love getting such a thoughtful gift for Father’s Day?
