There are so many reasons to take the time to make an edible gift…
- They’re always appreciated, particularly when you take the time to consider what the lucky recipient likes
- They’re typically inexpensive to make
- They’re personal. Nothing says ‘I care’ more than something homemade
- You can usually bang out several gifts in one afternoon
- And last but not least, they keep you out of the mall
Here are 12 easy and delicious gifts of food, with something for everyone. Whether your recipient has a sweet tooth, is a gourmet cook or a health enthusiast, you’re sure to find something they’ll love receiving!

Sugar Cookie Buttons, Smoky Paprika Peppers, Edible Fruit Arrangement, Homemade Granola
Dried apricots, date and ginger chutney, Hot Chocolate Truffles, Infused Olive Oils, Hot Fudge Sauce
Gingerbread Box & Mason Jars, Vanilla Hot Chocolate Mix, Salted Caramel Sauce, Barbecue Rub
I had a lot of fun curating these homemade goodies for you, so I think I’ll continue on and come up with some more I think you might like, maybe adding some some non-food items as well. But I can’t let you leave without letting you know about what I consider to be one of the best homemade edible gifts ever, especially if you have to send it to your recipient. They keep for weeks, are not delicate (important when mailing!) and perfect for the chocolate lover in your life! I’m talking about my world famous biscotti :).

Tomorrow I’ll be heading out to put together some wreaths for a fundraiser with a couple of friends and I’ll be sure to take some pictures and share them with you. This is the third year we’ll be doing this. The first year we made some wreaths which you can see here, and last year we worked on centerpieces which you can see here.
In other news…
If you subscribe to my posts via email, you might have noticed you received two updates today. You also might have noticed you received an update for the first time today, even though you subscribed a while ago. I’ve mentioned in the past how much trouble I had been having with Feedburner, and I finally moved over to MadMimi (and I’m sooooo glad I did!). For reasons I don’t quite understand, it’s recommended that I not delete my Feedburner account, but rather delete the html source code for Feedburner. Well, I’ll tell you the same thing I told MadMimi…there’s no way I’m messing with code! So…if you don’t want to receive two email updates, just ‘unsubscribe’ from Feedburner. Don’t make a mistake and unsubscribe from MadMimi though! You’ll know which is which because it should say ‘Powered by MadMimi’ on the bottom of the email.

Oh I’m so glad you mentioned your biscotti! I have the recipe printed out and intend to make it and the cowboy bark…yum. Oh, what kind of chocolate do you usually use for the bark?
Yikes, I’m going to have to step up my excerise to keep from gaining weight. And eat lots of salad and soup, lol.
Hugs,
Cecilia

Hi Doreen! This is a great idea! I love some of these edible gifts. The infused olive oil is one of my favorites and I know where to get real pretty bottles––cheap. Thanks! 😀

Wonderful ideas Doreen!! I’ve never tried to make biscotti and now you have me intrigued. Lol
My Mom and I always bake some food gifts too, and I’m especially known for sugared pecans I make and give out in cute tins or different containers. I think this year we’re going to add some holiday mini loaves of bread to our usual goodies to give along with some chocolate covered spoon stirrers for a nice coffee, cocoa treat.
Thanks for such great ideas!! 😉

Thanks for sharing all of those homemade gift ideas! Those are such good ideas for neighbors and people that drop in. My husband has requested sugar cookies, so I guess I will be making those for sure.

Reason #5 is all the justification needed for me!!! I can’t take it being out there amongst all of those amateur shoppers who don’t know up from down!!!
I’m thinking of giving homemade gifts this year. Most of our friends and family have everything in the world they could possibly want (except the SUPER greedy ones who don’t deserve anything else anyway!), and giving them something delicious that they can enjoy at their leisure sounds like the perfect gift to me! My son loves waffles, for instance, but his mate has no clue other than to pop frozen ones into a toaster. (Where in the world does he find these chicks??!??!) I always make a big batch of dry waffle mix for our pantry at home and just scoop it out as needed. I think that will be my gift to him, along with the 1-cup scoop so that there’s no guesswork involved!!! All he or she has to do is add the milk, egg & shortening and voila….waffles!!!
Thanks for reinforcing this idea. With $$$ scant around here these days, this makes sense in so many ways!!!

Please put me down for the smokey paprika peppers, the homemade granola and the salted carmel sauce. I don’t even need the bow, lol! Such a decadent collection, yum!
