This month marks my six month anniversary blogging, but it’s been almost a year ago that the seed was planted. So much has happened in the last 12 months. Lots of frustrations, but lots of growth as well. A year ago, I never even heard of the word widget, much less know what it meant. And a Gravatar? I thought that was a movie. I couldn’t even upload pictures. That’s the unvarnished truth. I later learned it was an issue with my browser (boooooo Explorer), but I didn’t even know enough to try a different browser. I could have given up and gone about my life as it was. After all, I had a successful business to maintain and lots of interests that kept me busy and happy. But I wanted to try something new. I wanted to learn as much as I could about anything and everything that comes along with blogging. After many weeks and months of frustration and after finally deciding to get professional tech and design help, I wrote my first post in April, 2012.
It’s been a slow start. Social media, for me, has a huge learning curve. But there’s a wealth of knowledge and resources out there and the blogging community is truly a giving one. I’m grateful for the help of my blogging friends for their support. Peggy at The Decorating Files, what can I say? Your help and support means more than you will know. Thank you to Darlene at Fieldstone Hill Design for helping me to stay focused by remembering my Design Manifesto, and so many other caring, knowledgeable bloggers for their never ending stream of ideas, inspiration and caring.
I thought I would put together some of my favorite posts over the last six months. I hope you can take the time to check them out and let me know what you think. Bloggers love comments. In fact, we live and breath for them. So don’t be shy.
In June, I enrolled in an online course called Blogging Your Way. One of our assignments was to write about why we blog. It pretty much forced us to evaluate our real reasons for doing this. After all, blogging is a LOT of work and not for the faint of heart. Bloggers typically spend hours, maybe days, writing one post only to have it slip into oblivion without a single comment. It has to be a labor of love, or it just won’t work. Sure, some might do it to promote their business, but most of us do it for far more personal reasons. Why I Started a Blog, and Why You Should Too is my first ‘fav’ post, and if you don’t already blog, after reading it you might decide to jump on the bandwagon. 🙂
Although I didn’t truly realize nor appreciate it while growing up, my grandmother had a huge influence on my life. She was resourceful, energetic and one of the most hard working women I’ve ever known. A real old school Italian grandmother who had a huge heart but didn’t take crap from anyone. A Life Not Forgotten is my all too lame attempt to pay tribute to her life.
If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll know that most of my projects take place at our weekend home, which is a small log cabin located in Western Massachusetts. When we purchased the home 7 years ago, it was quite a project, and still is! Before/Afters of Our Cabin will give you a sneak peek into our weekend getaway, and all the work that we have put into it. Installing flooring, tongue and groove ceilings and paneling, repurposing storage closets into benches, building a bar area under our basement stairs. Whew! I could go on, but a picture is worth a thousand words, so take a peek. Oh, and just a word of advice. Don’t even think about doing ceiling work unless you have a massage therapist at the ready. Just sayin’.
Although our cabin is not large, I have managed to carve out a small craft space. Actually, it’s the largest dedicated craft space I’ve ever had, so I’m really grateful to have it and wanted to take this opportunity to share it with you. Craft Room Makeover will show you a room that is probably the only room I’ve ever decorated in primary colors, and maybe it will give you some inexpensive ideas for creating your own little crafting getaway.
Last but not least, Our Puppy Story is the story of our sweet pups, Bubbles and Charlie. Bubbles has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, but Charlie, our granddog, is still very much alive and living the good life in Singapore with our daughter, his mommy. Check out this post if you want to see the cutest, sweetest pooch that ever lived. Really! And if you click on ‘leave a comment’, you’ll see that not only is Charlie adorable, but smart! He’s managed to figure out how to leave comments on blogs. Truly amazing I tell ya!!
In between the above posts you’ll find some recipes, some decorating ideas and inspiration, some ideas on fun things to do and how to be a kick butt thrifter and diy’er. But let’s face it. You can find that information in literally hundreds of thousands of blogs, right? So why should you spend time on Househoneys?? Because I need your help. I’m still trying to figure out what a #@% widget is!

Congrats on your 6th month anniversary! You were cracking me up with the widget stuff, and it is so true!!! It is amazing how much you learn blogging. I still have tons to learn, and social media is so hard for me to keep up with. I am so thankful you hung in there. I can’t wait to check out the rest of posts. Thanks so much for the great info., too! Of course, a huge thank you for sharing each week at A Bouquet of Talent. Hugs and congrats.
