About a year or two ago I bought a large globe on a stand for $2.00 at a tag sale. The part of the stand that screwed into the globe was broken, but fisherman fixed it and it was fine for a while. A few weeks ago while our grandson was playing with it, it broke and this time it couldn’t be fixed.
I decided to spray paint the stand using Rustoleum Silver Metallic, put a plate on top and use it as a centerpiece.
The only problem was the stand was taller than I realized and it would have been overpowering on our smallish dining table, but it was the perfect height for a side table! I had a silver plate that was just the right size and used gorilla glue to secure it.
I changed the red pillow to a yellow one in this next pic :). Not sure which I prefer. The room needs pattern, but I always seem to have a hard time with that and tend to play it safe with solids. I really need to break out of that habit.
That’s a tea light centerpiece on the table that’s super easy and practically free to make. You can learn about that here.
There was a time when I might have thrown away the stand, but I’m really looking at things differently and trying to see if they can be turned into something new and unique. Have any of you seen that HGTV show ‘Flea Market Flip’? Those folks are so creative, they probably would have turned the globe stand into an armoire, a refrigerator or an 18 wheeler ;), but I’m satisfied with my little side table, tyvm.
And in case you’re wondering what happened to the globe, maybe I cut it in half and turned it into a light fixture, or two really big earrings, or maybe I’m gonna use it as a large, rather unstable paperweight…or maybe it’s just lying on the floor on its own doing just fine without the stand. Some things are best left alone. 🙂

Now that is creative!! What a great idea, and it looks awesome. I have a metal stand in my garage from an old table that broke. Now I know what to do with it. Thanks for the inspiration. Don’t you just love Gorilla glue? I use that all the time. So glad you were able to link up! Since I didn’t hear from you, I hope it was smooth. 🙂 The party wouldn’t be the same without you!! XOXO

What a clever project this is–that globe stand made a wonderful side table. Also loved the use of the metallic spray paint! It was so nice to hear from you over at my blog, and glad you enjoyed the vintage bar cart. Today I styled it, and give some tips about how to do that to create a vintage vibe, perhaps one that Bond, James Bond, would enjoy 🙂 Glad that it brought back a childhood memory of your gold cart as well–cool! Take care, and have a wonderful new week!
