I’m back with part deux of my mood boards, and this time it’s all about the boudoir. In my last post I showed you some ideas I’ve been crushing on for the living room, and today I’m sharing some objects of my affection for the master bedroom.
You probably know I’ve got pretty eclectic taste, but I’m concentrating on shades of blue and some French Country mixed in with Cottage pieces and a touch of bling.
This time, let’s start with my ‘French Country’ moodboard. While this look can be beautiful using saturated reds and various complimentary patterns, I prefer my French Country look to be subtle and romantic, particularly in the bedroom.
I saw this headboard (top left) on Pinterest, source unknown, and quickly fell in love with the fabric. If I could find similar fabric I would absolutely consider making one, or having it made. In fact, I’m getting a price quote from the same carpenter who is making our dining table.
The curtains are from Soft Surroundings, and you’ll soon notice they’re on each of my three boards, so it’s a safe bet they’ll find a home in the bedroom.
Here is my ‘Cottage Style’ board, featuring a simple linen upholstered headboard, a robins egg blue and antique white nightstand, floral rug and antique armoire. I love the simplicity of this headboard, and oh how I love that armoire! My search for something similar hasn’t been successful, and I’ve looked EVERYWHERE. I’m afraid that’s an item I will absolutely have to compromise on :(.
Lastly, here’s my ‘Coastal Luxe’ board. I’m in love with the soft blue color on this headboard, but I prefer one that is a little taller so that when the pillows are leaning on the headboard they don’t cover most of it up.
Now let’s talk about nightstands and lamps. What’s up with the skimpy ones that have barely enough room to hold a glass of water? Maybe they’re ok for a guest room, but I like my nightstand to be something a bit substantial and provide some storage as well as ample room to comfortably hold a lamp, maybe a book as I sometimes like to read in bed, and also something decorative. Drawers only are fine but ideally I like both drawers and doors like the one in the above mood board. And I like my lamps to be tall so that they can actually provide some light for reading, otherwise, what’s the point? AMIRIGHT?
Ok, off my soapbox now.
Technically, this isn’t an armoire, but I’m thinking it could easily hold a flat screen tv and with the addition of some fabric panels all the ‘ugly’ is covered up.
This next board is just some random pieces I liked that don’t represent any one particular style. Even though it’s very simple, I’m quite partial to the turquoise dresser, bottom left. Although the color is a bit too bright for what I have in mind, I like the clean lines and think it would lend itself to some embellishment nicely if I was so inclined.
In other news…
Here is a recent photo of the living room and kitchen island, which mysteriously looks blue (I wish!) in this pic but is actually more grey than blue. I think you can get a better idea of just how small the living room is from this angle. The door on the right leads to the master bedroom, the opening on the far left leads to the pantry and then the dining room and the wider opening in the center leads to the front door.
I don’t have any great news to share about a move in date. We were definitely hoping to be in by Memorial Day, but that’s not gonna happen. Let s face it…have you ever known anyone who has had a house built who has actually moved in on or before their promised date?
Me either.
We actually moved BAM this week to another spot within the same resort. Turns out our old spot is spoken for beginning June 23rd and we didn’t want to take the chance the resort would be fully booked by then so we moved to a space we know we can keep as long as we need. I feel like such a nomad!
One good thing…Spring has finally arrived! This weekend was in the 70’s and sunny which was perfect as we were entertaining a guest from out of town and good weather certainly makes for a better visit! I know it’s been a long, cold winter for many of you, so I hope you’re finally seeing some crocuses show their tiny faces by now!

Hi Doreen! So glad to hear from you! I LOVE your mood boards – each one has its own delights.. and the turquoise blues are so soft and inviting. I agree with you that I like a larger bedside table with drawers and doors.. and a nice tall lamp.. and of course, right now I have neither! I have a tiny 1 foot square stand that is really for a bathroom, but is white which I love, with a small drawer on top and then doors,, but it barely holds anything on top! The photo of your kitchen island and living room is wonderful! Those ceilings are amazing and it already looks coastal to me. Glad you got BAM moved to a place you can stay in that will be until you move to your new home. It must be SO exciting planning it all and dreaming about what it will look like when done (does it ever get done??? NO!).
We’ve had a few warmer days here and more sunshine, but some pretty hard downpours which is unusual for this area… I’m actually starting to want to plant flowers, so that’s a good sign! Keep those photos coming….. love them.. and love the mood boards. I think I’m partial to the first headboard with the curvy top.. and that fabric IS gorgeous. Love a white distressed armoir and love the tall lamp in your last random board, with the blue toile lampshade. Sigh.. love toile and the blue toile is especially inviting (as is pink toile!).
Enjoy the journal! Hugs.. Marilyn

Love all of your mood boards! I love the ceiling in your new home. I laughed a little when I saw that pattern on your floor. I know what created it because we had that too. They spray painted your doors there, right?
Our builder said it would take 4-5 months to build our house and it took 10. Fingers crossed for you!

Doreen, I think the calm and serene color palet you’ve chosen is beautiful. So are the choices for furniture. Your home is going to have a wonderful flow. All the choices will make what you think is a small space seem larger. If I could build again this is the way I would go. I can’t wait to see eveything finished and it will be worth all the work and effort, even going beyond the finishing date. Looking fabulous!

Your new home is definitely going to be a showplace! I can’t wait to see photos once you’ve moved in and the place is decorated in all its glory! You’ve missed your calling as an interior decorator! xxDenise

Your choices are great and I love that headboard too. It would be beautiful and perfect if you can get that in your master. All your choices are lovely. You just have to decide which direction you really want.
I am swooning over the ceiling. I wanted it in tis house but like everything else in NJ, it was a fortune.
Hope you get in there sooner rather then later.
Hugs,
Cindy

Ahhhhhh I am crushing on all your mood boards. I love the soft and serene colors and theme you will have for your Master. I love soft surroundings curtains and they will be so beautiful in your new place. I too love a big nightstand. In fact my dream was to have a room big enough to put a small dresser on each side of the bed for a night stand. I agree with you bigger is better when it comes to nightstands. I have bigger ones in our little cottage bedroom. They just barely fit with our king size bed but was happy they would make it. I hope you become the first person I know that has built a house and it was exactly on time for the move in date!!! Hey a girl can dream!
Lets hope even if it is not on the actual date it won’t be too long after.
Happy New Week.
Hugs,
Kris

Oh how I love everything in the French country moodboard! The headboard is to die for! But I also love the wood armoire in the country board, and the lamp there. And of course the shape of the turquoise dresser in the bottom selection is lovely.
You are so right about proper lighting bedside and enough room, for me anyway, to hold a few books, reading glasses, water glass, our wedding pic, a special little calendar on an easel that Christy buys me replacements for each Christmas, and an old purple glass that holds a few essential oil rollers for bedtime. Way to much stuff on it for you, Doreen! Mine bed table is an old wood washstand and has a drawer running across that I open up each night where hand cream, eye drops, pencils, etc. are handy. And it has two doors that open underneath that, if only I could find the key that opens them, the one I put in a safe place when we moved back from Florida.
But my lamp needs to be taller–maybe I need to sit it on top of a couple of books because it’s the only one that works right there.
I know I will love your bedroom–and that glamorous sitting room beyond it!

Look at you…..entertaining when you are in temporary “housing.” Can’t keep a good woman down.
I’m not a French Country person, but I do see the beauty in your mood boards and I do love soft colors. I actually like the open armoire that seems to be the least of your favorites. To me, the huge country armoire would so overpower the room of otherwise more delicate decor. Regardless, I’m sure what you come up with will be perfect for you.
Oh, and the ceiling is just amazing.

“otherwise, what’s the point? AMIRIGHT?” darn tootin!
i see now why they’re called “mood” boards.
my problem is this. i’m a gemini. my moods change. creating a board is pointless.
wait. i have to digress a moment! i see all of a sudden why only a thunderbolt could come in and sweep me off my feet! i fell in love so fast and so thoroughly that i didn’t have time to ‘change moods’ on him! or i should say ABOUT him.
ok. what were we supposed to be talking about. oh. yes. mood boards for décor.
i like pieces that look like you picked them up on that street in Notting Hill. don’t know what the street is in Paris.
but you know they surely have them. rather than the elegant ‘show rooms.’ love your “mix” of everything but still with the underlying mood of throwaway elegance. don’t you just love that phrase? i do! throwaway elegance.
like. ” i’m elegant. but i truly can’t be bothered. i’m late for my pickle ball game! ”
sending you love. i would send you energy for all this stuff. but i don’t have any to spare. XOXO

I like all of your mood boards! I can’t wait to see what you end up doing. Your one armoire reminds me of the rustic ones – I see a lot of them at the thrift store – granted they are more rustic than the one you show. Sorry your moving date isn’t set yet. I know that is frustrating. Here’s hoping it happens sooner rather than later!

These decisions are daunting! Having said that, I love, love, love those curtains, and I also love that bottom left dresser you like. I think I like the French country look if I had to choose one, but making that choice is so hard! I feel for you, really, I do!

Wow….I love it all, Doreen. What beautiful choices. It is such a calming color selection. It will hard to pick just one. Your home construction is coming along and will be absolutely stunning. I love your ceiling in your picture. They say lighting is so important in the color and mood of a room. Yours will be so welcoming. Thank you for your visit too. It is always so nice to hear from you. Spring is finally here in Wisconsin, but blooming is three or so weeks behind. No lilacs or tulips yet. The last of the snow will finally melt today. I hope you are enjoying beautiful Spring and of course, all of your lovely home decor selections. I can’t wait to see the final results.

Doreen, I love every single piece you’ve chosen for your mood boards!! The ceiling in your family room and that island are both gorgeous!

MY mood was lifted instantly with the prints from your eclectic collection, which I would definitely merge with the cottage style board. I like things a little bolder, a little brighter, hence the presence of cherry RED in the living room and kitchen to express my ‘take’ on French country.
But, like you, I’ve decorated my master bedroom in cool, soft blues combined with white (gingham sheets, powdery paint colour), complemented with gold accents (armchair, writing desk – all now going to Libby’s place, so I’ll need to shop the house to replace them).
LOVE the honey coloured antique armoire! Spent at least two years trying to hunt one down here, but no luck. Can’t wait to see you do your magic and put everything together so that one room flows beautifully into the other. Your living room is huge compared to mine, which shares its space with the dining area, so be happy!
Waiting for the next installment!

Doreen I love all of your selections especially all the dressers and night stands. And I have to agree you need to have something substantial. The rugs are also very lovely, I have been looking at rugs for months now and seem to get more and more confused because there is such a huge selection of pretty rugs.
Spring has finally shown up here as well and I am so happy for that! I’m looking forward to enjoying it here since I haven’t had a NY spring in more than 20 years.
Stay well and I think that the time it is taking them to fix the house might actually be a blessing since it is helping you come up with so many decorating idea. And hopefully by the time it is built you will be ready with your furniture selections.

Everything is so pretty, Doreen, I don’t know how you are going to choose! Of course, I am partial to the ‘cottage style’ 🙂 Loved taking a little peek at the house in progress – so beautiful with the arched doorways and coffered ceiling. I just love the scent of fresh paint and new wood. It’s better than any perfume! I agree with you on the nightstand and lamp. I love to pile mine high with books, magazines, flowers and whatever else I need for a comfy night of reading in bed. Hope you are enjoying this pleasure sooner, rather than later, too! Happy May! x Karen

It’s definitely coming along and beautifully so!!! Love the paint you have on the walls, lovely, peaceful! I enjoyed scrolling through your boards: I am so in love with those beautiful drapes!!!!
Yes I think spring has arrived here in NH too. It is a warm, beautiful spring day today!!! Happy Spring! Soon you will be in your new, lovely home!

So many decorating choices! Great idea to do mood boards so you can plan ahead of time. Your new home is looking wonderful already…so jealous that you’ll have a pantry!

The schedule never seems to go as planned – so true! Your house looks lovely, though, even before you’ve got it move-in ready.

I liked seeing the progress in your new home. I’m with you with nightstands. I have one with a door and one with drawers. They are large enough for a lamp, a glass of water, a dreaded alarm clock and a pile of books!

It’s exciting that it’s getting close! Hopefully it won’t be too long after Memorial Day that you’ll be in your beautiful new home.. One thing all of your mood boards have in common is that all versions feel very serene and peaceful. I’m guessing we’ll see a mix of styles, which will be uniquely your own! Can’t wait to see how your new house turns out!

I can’t wait to see it. We to pray we get to break ground on our house here at the farm this year. I too am attracted to the blues and greens this year. I love them.
