Things have officially started to settle down a bit since the move and I’m slowly but surely declaring certain areas ‘done’, or almost done, which is good enough for me right about now. I’m typing this from my new home office, which is set up in the downstairs bedroom. It’s nothing fancy…just three Ikea cabinets with two cut down doors placed on top which I’ve stained to match the molding in the room. I’m happy to get my computer out of the craft room and into it’s own designated work space! We still have a list longer than my arm of things that need to get done, but what else is new?!
Just to add to the ‘to-do’ list we decided to go to Brimfield this past weekend (I’ll show you some pictures of that soon) and I picked up a cabinet for the bathroom. Here’s a sneak peak:
Pretty grungy, huh? I’ve got big plans for this cabinet that includes possibly either some chalk paint or MMSMP. I was happy to see a retailer for the milk paint about 40 minutes away so I may give it a try, but I’m also leaning toward redoing it using products I already have so we’ll see how that goes. I may also utilize some of the paper I used for the lamp project I did a couple of months ago, but I need at least one more sheet. Fisherman is going to NY tomorrow and is stopping by the store where I picked it up originally so I hopefully can get started soon. That’s project numero uno right now, then I’m going to tackle the dresser I picked up last week for a song. Another REALLY grungy piece. I must be a masochist.
Moving on…some weird things have been happening lately. Remember Chucky? Well, he’s missing, and if we haven’t found him by now it’s not likely we ever will. (If you don’t know the story about Chucky and how he relates to the upcoming wedding, check it out by clicking the link or the sidebar photo.)
On the blog front one of the things I’ve noticed is I wasn’t getting some blog updates from blogs I subscribe to and I also wasn’t getting notifications when a blogger responded to my comment or when someone subscribed to my blog via my ‘househoneys’ email. This morning I logged into my cpanel email and everything looked different. It asked me to input some basic info like my full name and then I was able to see my email and voila! Tons of updates were visible that I hadn’t seen before. I know a lot of blogs have been having their readers tell them they weren’t getting updates and it seems to be connected to whatever server you’re using. My personal email is aol and that seems to be one of the servers that weren’t affected, but my blog email was.
Another positive change is it was taking FOREVER for me to upload photos. Seriously, about 2-3 minutes per photo. That may not sound like a lot but trust me, it is when you want to get 8-10 pictures into a post! Fisherman jumped into action and Verizon came to the house and fixed things, and now it takes about 20 seconds!
Remember my knee surgery in February? Well, things weren’t coming along as expected so last week I started physical therapy and I feel better already. I really wanted to be 100% by the wedding so I can bust my moves :). Fingers crossed.
Here it is Memorial Day weekend already and it’s still too cold to work outside! We’ve only had a couple of days where you would actually want to spend much time outdoors so the garden is woefully neglected, and that’s one of the things I really wanted to get done this season. I was out there for a few minutes the other day and noticed some poison ivy. Normally I wouldn’t let that stop me but I’m a little nervous about getting a possible infection before the wedding. Or maybe I’ll just start a new look for mother of the brides…
I’ll be showing you some of the ways I organized some of the spaces in the kitchen, pantry, my closet, etc. soon that cost practically nothing and are working really well so far. It was a bit challenging getting two households into one. It involved lots of purging, but mostly just utilizing the space we have better and it’s almost done and wasn’t that hard to do.
What are your plans for the long weekend?

Glad that you’re feeling better since you started physical therapy. I’ll be going to a wedding this weekend myself. I haven’t been to one in years. Looking forward to seeing how you transform that piece of furniture!

I went to a wedding in April Kelly, but like you I think it had been at least ten years since I had been to one! Lots of customs have changed…brides don’t typically do the garter thing anymore, but most still throw the bouquet. I wonder if it’s a regional thing? Also, the days of the brides family paying for everything are long gone, which is a good thing because weddings are unbelievably expensive! Getting married and dying are big business it seems. Vendors know they gotcha’.
Enjoy it and let me know how it goes!

Hey Doreen! I’m glad PT is helping with your knee. When is the wedding? Praying for you to be better by then!
Can’t wait to see how you transform your pieces of furniture…so strange that Chucky is missing…the weather is just crazy this year! Hope you warm up soon! We are going to be at the farm. I have my bench to finish up and more plants to plant.i can’t wait!

Hey Cecilia! It was actually nice today! We ended up spending most of the day inside anyway. We are having friends over for the weekend and there’s nothing like guests coming to motivate me to clean the house. lol
The wedding is the 14th. She’s coming to NY on the first and will have her final fitting on the third in Manhattan and I will be meeting her there that day. She will be staying in Manhattan while she’s in town, so I won’t see her very much as we are now nearly 3 hours away.
Have a great weekend, and send some warm weather our way (but not TOO warm!)
Cecilia says
Oh that’s coming up quickly! Definitely stay away from the poison ivy! Very exciting!
And yay for warm weather! Our temperatures have been perfect. We are enjoying sitting out on the patio every evening.
Hugs,
Cecilia

Sounds like you have been one busy lady! Thanks for taking time to stop by my blog in the midst of it all. I have been browsing through several posts…love your cabin and your craft room! Your porch is amazing…so welcoming! I look forward to seeing the brooch bouquet you are working on for your daughter. I read that she lives in Singapore…how cool! I look forward to visiting again. Have a blessed Memorial Day weekend…Vicky

Glad everything is starting to settle down! Glad the physical therapy is helping your knee! You know, my hubby is a PT and they can really do amazing things sometimes! Our daughter is heading to New York this weekend to explore her possibilities and live in the “big Apple”! I see airline travel in my future……maybe we could get together??!!!
p.s. the whole “chucky” things is really weird!! Keep me posted!! LOL!!

I didn’t know your hubs was a PT!
I saw on FB that Nicole is heading to NY and I immediately thought about you coming up this way. Getting together would be awesome!
You’re right about Chucky. That’s beyond weird, and one of life’s mysteries that will probably never be solved.

That cabinet looks like a fun project. I have to tell you that I far prefer the finished texture of Annie Sloan over Miss Mustard See.
Dancing at the wedding sounds like great motivation for getting that knee to 100%.
Doreen says
I purchased some MMS paint today Carol. One thing I noticed at the store from the samples is the end product depends a lot of what you use over it, if anything, i.e., hemp oil, furniture was, antique wax, etc.
Can you tell me what you experienced and what you used?
Carol says
I used ASCP clear wax.

Thanks Carol, it came out great! Such a pretty color blue :).

The cabinet has a lot of potential! I hope your knee will improve!

It will be fun to see what you do with the cabinet in the end 🙂

That’s going to be a fun project! Glad that PT is helping you – I’ve always found it to help me loads. I still do my pt exercises for my knee a few times a week even though it’s not bothering me (just in case) 🙂
Have a great weekend!

Doreen I am so happy that things are getting settled down a bit and physical therapy has been helping. Stick with it, I know people who have had knee surgeries and that seems to make a difference so you can get your groove on for the wedding. Speaking of wedding, I was thinking about it the other day. I hope all things are moving along well. That cabinet was a great find. I haven’t ventured to MMSMP yet. I feel a bit intimidated so I stick with ASCP. We’ll see in the new house. I want to repaint our dining room furniture. So a smaller project may have to get done first with MMSMP first. Have a great weekend and hope you computer problems get fixed and stay that way.

My plans? Planting grass seed and buying a new car. Bought the car…much more exciting than planting the grass seed. Maybe I’ll just go drive the car while Phil plants the grass seed.
Hope your therapy continues to help!
