Yes, there is a new star in the sky. And that star is ever so bright, and I know it’s you Dominique. Shining down on those you care about, telling them to live their lives and be fearless in all they do.
When we learned of your tragic accident and sudden passing last week, it was difficult to comprehend how such a vibrant spirit could no longer be with us.
But that was me just being naive, because spirits such as your’s never die. Although it had been several years since we had seen you, we never forgot you and spoke of you often and fondly. That was just the kind of person you were…impossible to forget.
I often speak to people who rarely venture outside the confines of their little part of the world. But wow, could you teach them a thing or two about what it means to truly live! Go to Japan by yourself and live? No problem. How about Spain? Ditto. Ride a motorcycle. Piece of cake. You packed more life in your 26 years than most people four times your age.
You lived life with a huge appetite for adventure and laughter, and took whomever was lucky enough to know you along for the ride. And although there are so many people with broken hearts knowing your sweet face is no longer with us on earth, I know each and every one of them are grateful for having known you.
Your beautiful face told the world who you were, and it was all good.
We always pronounced your name ‘Domini-keeeee’. We just felt it suited your vivacious nature, and that’s how we will always remember you.
You and Sarissa became fast friends when you met in daycare at age 2, as did your mom and I. We shared lots of New Year’s celebrations together. Fun times…
Your beautiful family while we were all on a Christmas trip to Jamaica back in 1996. You were your mom’s only child, and the apple of her eye. I won’t pretend to know what she’s going through, but I know you will help her as best you can.
Ringing in the millenium when you and Sarissa were just 13. That was a fun night and we were glad to be spending it with you!
It didn’t surprise me when I learned you had taken up belly dancing. You were always the first one on the dance floor! And what a beautiful young lady you turned into.
The two bff’s, always laughing and getting into some sort of mischief! You were such a goof ball who never failed to make us laugh.
And just in case you didn’t see it on FaceBook, here’s what Sarissa had to say, and you can be sure her words ring true for all who knew you.
Rest in Peace to a girl who shaped who I am today, Dominique Silvestry. I hope as time passed you thought of me as often and fondly as I did you…You dragged me into adventure, pulled me into fairytales, and taught me that the best thing in the world is laughter. You were my best friend. I will never forget you ♥
What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower,
We will grieve not, rather find Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.
