Hey there! I hope you had a wonderful ‘unofficial end of summer’ weekend! We had great weather here in the Northeast, and we made the most of it. We headed out early on Wednesday night to our cabin for the weekend and were able to spend 5 days by the lake. It was heaven and we feel so fortunate we have such a lovely place to escape to when we want to get away from it all. I will tell you more about it in other posts, but I couldn’t wait to show you this adorable thatched roof cottage that is located not too far from us in the lovely town of Tyringham, Massachusetts.
I have always fantasized about living in a place like this! Of course, unless I’m ready, willing and able to move to England, it’s probably not gonna happen, but dreams die hard, don’t they?! It’s not every day you see a house like this here in the States, so I wanted to take a couple of pictures so you can drool too. 🙂
I don’t know much about the history, other than it used to be an art gallery, and now I think they do private events and tours. According to the sign, they may also rent it out for vacations! How cool is that??! When we stopped to take pictures, it was closed to the public because something was going on inside so I don’t have any interior shots but at some point I will get them and re-post some pictures.
This lovely house is situated right next door and thought it too was ‘blog worthy’. I love the windows!
Here is the view from the street. This entire town is just gorgeous! Lovely, historical homes dot the landscape. It’s hard to be the driver and keep your eyes on the road! I wish I had more time to take pictures of them, but definitely will in the future.
Train was performing Friday night at Tanglewood, which was also the night of the Blue Moon. Upon entering Tanglewood at Lion’s Gate, this is what greets you. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Tanglewood, they are home to the Boston Pops and host lots of classical concerts during the summer.
We didn’t purchase tickets in advance, as we wanted lawn seats as opposed to shed seats and those are usually readily available for all but the most in demand performances. We gambled that the weather would cooperate and we were not disappointed. That’s me seated in white and my ‘artist’ friend Cheryl on the left. Elaine, as always, coordinated the evening and is ‘pretty in pink’, and her lovely sister is seated next to me.
Traditionally, everyone brings a picnic dinner to Tanglewood. Cheryl and Alan brought these GORGEOUS tomatoes with delicious mozzarella and balsamic dressing. They didn’t last long!
This is a shot of the Stockbridge Bowl before the sun went down for the night, and the next one was taken just a few minutes later. Other than changing my camera to a ‘sunset’ setting, these are unedited.
Of course, the moon was stunning that night! When I see a moon like this, I can’t help but think of the movie Moonstruck. How many times have you wanted to follow Cher’s example and smack someone in the face and say ‘Get over it’? A few times maybe, just a few ;).
Do tell, what do you think of the cottage?? Inquiring minds want to know!

So cute and unique! I love it! And the one next to it was really pretty too. Those windows are to die for!
So glad you had a nice getaway with your family!

Doreen, those tomatoes look heavenly! Do you know how they were prepared? If you get the chance to try making the spaghetti sauce from my blog, http://pinkpolkadotcreations.com/2012/09/05/homemade-bottled-spaghetti-sauce/ I would highly recommend that you give it a try! The jalapenos do not really give it a big kick, only a little kick because there are not very many in it for how big the recipe is! If you try it let me know how it turns out and what you think of this recipe. I would love to know!

What a fun outing at Tanglewood. Love your picnic, complete with table, and tablecloth. The little cottages are so unique. You are right, it looks like something out of European story book!
beautiful!

Thank you ladies! Rita, I do not know the details of the dressing (I assume that’s what you mean?) but I will try to find out. My guess is it was just a good quality balsamic and maybe a touch of olive oil. I will let you know if I get to the tomatoes. Time is running out on the season so if it doesn’t happen soon it will have to wait till next year. I’m going to check to see if I have enough tops for my jars, etc. so I can get right to it if I buy the tomatoes.
