I usually post about 3 times a week. This week I’m one short.
Not because I have writer’s block. Just the opposite.
There’s so much going on I don’t know where to begin. You know the feeling of having tons of clothes but nothing to wear?
It’s sorta like that. Just too many choices.
I want to tell you about my upcoming meniscus surgery scheduled for the 13th 14th. It’s not a big deal, but nevertheless, it’s surgery. In late September after taking a boot camp class I noticed my knee felt a little weird. Thinking it was just a pulled muscle I didn’t pay much attention until more than a week later when it didn’t get any better. I went to the Dr. and after an x-ray showed no abnormalities I was told to basically go home, take two aspirin and call in the morning. Fast forward three months and after a night of dancing in early January the pain got much worse and I knew something had to be done. An MRI was taken and sure enough it’s a torn meniscus, which apparently is very common and a procedure that my surgeon can do with his eyes closed…but let’s hope he opts to keep them open.
Amidst all this we will be moving at the end of March, so I’m grateful the surgery will be done in plenty of time for me to be either fully or almost fully recovered by then. And where are we moving you might ask? We don’t know yet. Just another detail at the moment.
Moving on with my rant…
I purchased Lightroom last week. I just finished watching a ShootFlyShoot video and I’m afraid the learning curve is going to be HUGE! OH MY GOODNESS! Watching it made me feel like my IQ was somewhere between that of an amoeba and a salamander. I’m hoping the fact that I got zero hours sleep last night contributed to my confusion. I can already tell I’m going to need to watch these videos about 12 times each. I’m screwed. So I just ended up going to iPhoto and PicMonkey. It felt like home :). I found the 101/102 videos to be super user friendly and I would highly recommend them, but this is a whole ‘nother ballgame…one in which I’m on the bench.
Yesterday I went to Apple for a one-on-one session. I did a super quick video about ASCP wax using my new GoPro I also did another quick one about how to pick out broaches for a bouquet. I wanted to upload them to YouTube but even though they’re only around 12 minutes each it was going to take over an hour for just one to upload. What?? Why so long you might ask?? I was told it’s because the GoPro camera is very high quality and YouTube has to convert it. Basically dumb it down in a matter of speaking. Not wanting to sit in the Apple store all afternoon, I left, but now I’m on my own.
The weather here in NY has been horrible. We had to close the office on Monday and Wednesday of this past week. In 15 years we’ve never had to do that. We’ve decided to open this Saturday to help make up some of the lost revenue and to keep our customers happy, but it’s hardly worth it. Only 4 customers signed up out of about 20 that we had to cancel. So…we won’t be heading up to the cabin, this weekend or next. Fisherman will go into the office tomorrow while I try to figure out Lightroom and/or the videos. Wish me luck. Maybe I’ll sneak a manicure in there while I’m at it.
As I was writing this the surgeon’s office called to tell me the surgery has been changed to the 14th. I guess Fisherman is off the hook for Valentine’s Day.
I will leave you with this random picture. They say every blog post needs to have at least one, so this seemed as good as any. Besides, I could use a bit of Spring right about now. I’m guessing you could too.
And don’t worry. I’ll be back with some posts soon that hopefully you might actually find useful. :/

Ok, now I know we haven’t talked in awhile…..surgery??? Is it outpatient surgery? I’m calling next week so we can catch up. Let me know a good day! Wish I could be there to take care of ya! (at least bring a bottle of wine, or two, or three!) Love ya dear friend.~~Ang
Doreen@househoneys says
Yes, it’s outpatient Angela. Not a big deal really. Call anytime. If I can’t talk I will call you back.
Now about that wine..

Hi Doreen! I pray for a quick recovery post surgery! And yes, I think it would be best if your Dr. keeps his eyes open 😉
Julie says
Hi Doreen, I do hope that your surgery goes well and good luck. I wish it would stop snowing too. Take care and have a nice manicure!

So nice to see some pretty flowers. I just don’t get into anything beyond Automatic on my camera. I don’t have the desire or motivation to learn. And I love Picmonkey. I’m sorry about your surgery. That’s the day I have my mammogram. Haven’t had one in a few years. So guess it’s time. I was wondering where you’re moving. Are you staying in NY?
Brenda
Doreen@househoneys says
Your pictures are fabulous Brenda. Can’t believe you only use auto, especially when photographing birds and animals. I would think you would need a fast shutter speed?
As for the move, things are uncertain but we should know soon.
Judy Clark says
Doreen – I went thru the same thing with my knee. After the pain got so bad, I went in and had it done and actually walked out of the hospital. I wished I would have had it done much sooner. Prayers will be with you and the doctors.
Don’t know where you are moving? That’s kinda scary! LOL
Good luck!
Judy
Doreen@househoneys says
That’s good to hear Judy. A friend got it done in December but he’s not 100% recovered yet. Still, it wasn’t bad. My priority is to be 100% by June for my daughter’s wedding, which should be no problem.
Yeah, this moving this is scary, but will work out.
Manuela@ A Cultivated Nest says
Good luck with the surgery! I have a meniscus “abnormality” which acts up now and then. I literally couldn’t walk for about 5 days last week because I stepped wrong!
ShootFlyShoot is such a highly recommened photography course. I’ve been thinking of taking it. My daughter gave me photoshop a year ago and I still haven’t installed it 🙂
The weather has been horrible here in Atlanta too. I feel like I live in Alaska!

Doreen, will be thinking of you and hope all goes well with your surgery. Surgery IS surgery and always a little nerve wracking! I just had some major oral surgery on Thursday and you wouldn’t believe what a wreck I was about it (but I’m such a baby about anything dental!) Take care of yourself, rest and spring will be here soon! If there is anything I can do to help, just ask! xo
Doreen says
Thank you Cindy! You’re a sweetheart, I certainly have had my fair share of oral surgery. Not fun. But anything that helps me keep my mouth shut can’t be all bad ;).
Amy @ StowandTellU says
Good thing you got to the bottom of the problem with your knee, and great news that it only requires a small procedure by your doctor, with his eyes open, lol. Sounds like you are going to bounce right back! The weather is just as challenging here in Chicagoland. The other day my truck got stuck in the ice/snow when pulling out to go to work, harumpphh! At least we can take solace in that spring is just around the cornrer, as your pretty blooming photo suggests:-)
Magali@TheLittleWhiteHouse says
I hope everything will work out perfectly, with a surgeon who has opened eyes! A new knee for Valentine’s day, that’s so romantic!
Denise says
Holy Moly! Hope your surgery goes well and you have a speedy recovery. Can’t wait to find out where your next temporary home will be. Maybe the next place will give you even more creative ideas to use on your blog. Keep us posted on your knee. xxDenise
Doreen says
Thanks Denise! We have to get together soon…I could use another facial :). And don’t forget that I have your book and I don’t want to have to pack it! lol
Denise says
What book? And, did you like it?
Soiledrotten says
Doreen! Hope you get well! I def. know the overwhelming feeling.
Stay strong. xo

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. I know you must be relieved to be getting it over with. Hang in there just a little bit longer. Spring is just around the corner!
Cecilia says
Oh Doreen, your plate is full right now! You will be in my prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery.
Hugs,
Cecilia

Oh Doreen! Good luck on your surgery on–Valentine’s Day? Well, Fisherman better be extra sweet while you recover. You’re so funny about the Lightroom thing, but I know how you feel. I’m the same about SEO, I just don’t get it! Maybe I just need a book–SEO for Dummies.
I hope you get better weather. Get your manicure and btw, I love the picture of the flowers. 😉
All the best!
~ Vashti
Doreen@househoneys says
Thank you Vashti! SEO? What’s that?? Lol. J/K, but I know what you mean. I just want to blog. I can’t be thinking about all the things I SHOULD be doing but don’t or I’ll drive myself even more bonkers than I already am. 😉

Doreen!! I’m just catching up with all your latest posts, and this happened to be my last stop after your more recent ones. My, you DO have a lot going on, but you are managing very well so far, cooking up a storm, waxing masterpieces, learning new tech trends, the list goes on…Wishing you best of luck with your surgery and a speedy recovery, so speedy that your Fisherman might find himself scrambling for Valentine’s Day ideas, in the end!
Good luck, sweetie! Will be thinking of you…
xo

PS: My husband has had meniscus surgery twice, (both knees), and he’s so much better now; no comparison! 😀
