A few weeks ago I shared a painted rug project that was super easy, fast and inexpensive. I figured at $59, why not try something else on the reverse side?! This would extend the life of the rug because I could simply change it up as my mood strikes me, and if I screwed it up it wasn’t a huge investment. Since the recent drapes I sewed up had a subtle leaf design I thought I would go in that direction. So I purchased some stencils that actually had lots of various leaf and fern patterns available at Michael’s and went to work.
I painted a border of leaves and some random fern motifs throughout.
Here’s a view of the reverse side of the rug, which I did a few weeks ago. I think I prefer the stripe pattern. The leaves are a bit too ‘country’ for my taste, but since the stripes have more of a nautical feel, I’m probably going to use that side when the weather is a bit warmer.
But I have a confession. This is not the real reason for this post. What I’m really itching to share with you is I’m so excited we got our table fixed! Here’s what was going on. The table leg was broken, so Fisherman used some screws to secure them to the table top to get us by. It wasn’t working too well. You couldn’t even lean on the table without worrying whether or not a bowl of spaghetti would end up in your lap.
We moved the table to the left from where it was, so now we needed the chandelier moved, and since the ceilings are high we called an electrician. Well, more than $500 smackaroos later, we had not only our chandelier moved, but he fixed our table! WHOOO HOOOO!! I was just about to buy a new one from Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel but I’m so glad I didn’t. So yeah, it was expensive to get the chandy moved, but if you think about it, it was almost free ;). Me likey.
So here you see the piece of wood that supposedly helped to stabilize the table…
And here you don’t! (Oh yeah, and I sewed a quick valance, got a new painting, vase and floor mat by the door in the meantime.)
Anyone in the mood for spaghetti?
