It’s two days since I had my minor meniscus knee surgery, and I’ve been getting some emails asking about how things went so I thought I would do a quick post about it. Today is Sunday, and as you can see, I’m feeling well enough to sit down and put a quick post together.
There was a lot of back and forth about when the actual surgery would take place. First it was the 7th, then the 13th at 7 a.m. (yikes!), then the 14th at 10 (much better). (On the 13th we ended up having a Nor’easter with about a foot of snow, so that would NOT have been ideal.)
I arrived at the facility as instructed at 9 and was greeted by a friendly nurse whose name was Kathy. (I don’t know about you, but I’ve never met a Kathy I didn’t like.) She prepared me for surgery, then the anesthesiologist came in and brought me to my happy place. It was exactly 10 a.m. and at 10:40 I was woken up. It was over. By 11:30 Fisherman and I were on our way home with some prescriptions and instructions for the next few days.
Friday and Saturday were spent pretty much spent in bed, and I took the pain meds as directed. But they were making me a little nauseous and drowsy and since the pain isn’t bad at all I’m no longer taking them. I was able to do some minor leg exercises beginning yesterday, and today I was able to take a shower for the first time since Friday morning…not a moment too soon ;).
As you can see, they gave me a cane but I’m not using it. I definitely don’t need it, plus I find canes cumbersome. I’m supposed to use a stationary bike beginning today, but we don’t have one. Of course, we sold one a few years ago because we never used it. Fisherman is going to Sports Authority to see if he can get a little portable one. If not, no big deal.
I’ve been passing the time by surfing the net, watching tv, talking on the phone a bit and looking at some Lightroom videos. I will admit Lightroom still has me stumped. This picture of the cane was edited there, but when I went to retrieve it it wasn’t edited at all. I wound up using PicMonkey. I really don’t know if I’m going to get the hang of it which makes me very frustrated, because I’m sure the process is fairly simple. Like they say…everything is easy once you know how to do it.
I’ve been visiting some of your blogs, but my attention span is fairly short so I’m taking it slow. I hope to catch up with not only your blogs but my own fairly soon. Thank you so much for all your good wishes. I appreciate it so much! Here’s hoping Mother Nature has shown us her worst this year, and Spring is just around the corner.

Hi Doreen- I am so glad that you are doing so well after your surgery. Just make sure you don’t overdo it. I hope you improve rapidly and just think-when Spring rolls around you will be ready for it! xo Diana

Thank you Diana! I couldn’t over do it if I tried. It’s so cold outside all I want to do is be a coach potato! ;). Fisherman ended up getting the little peddler thingie so I did my five minutes as recommended and will increase that as the days progress, but other than that, no over doing it for me.

It’s good that you don’t need the meds anymore…to me, I could take drowsy, but not nauseous ..that’s like having the flu on purpose! π
And I agree with Nana Diana…don’t overdo. In other words let the hubby vacuum for a GOOD LONG TIME! π π
Take care and rest up when you need to π
Doreen@househoneys says
You are so right Debra! That’s exactly how I feel. Being nauseous is the worst!!
I like how you think about the vacuuming, although I must confess…since we own a cleaning biz it’s been many years since either one of us has used one. lol

Hi Doreen – I’m so glad that you shared an update with us and SO happy to hear that things went well and you are feeling ok. I’m going to echo everyone else and say don’t overdo it! You are recuperating at the best time, while icky winter is still here and you’ll be good as new by the time Spring arrives (hopefully soon!) Try to enjoy the downtime a bit, because really when do we get very of that? Rest, relax and keep getting better!

Wishing you a speedy recovery.I know how you feel about lightroom I downloaded the thirty day trial and I was pulling my hair out! I may try again someday.
Doreen@househoneys says
I glad I’m not alone Karen! I’m not giving up though. I’m going to take advantage of this down time and try to look at YouTube videos and anything else I can get my hands on. I’m not going to let LR get the best of me! Check back in a few weeks and whatever I learn I will pass along to you in simple terms and help you any way I can.

Hope you are feeling better!!!…My hubby has had a total of three knee surgeries…all sports related….last one was a year ago and he was back playing in 5 weeks…I am sure you will want to rehab quickly and get back to your routine, in the meantime…rest up and enjoy some R&R…now R&R means “rest and relaxation” to me…but to my hubby it means “run and rehab”….I prefer the relaxation!!!
Take care Doreen!!!
Doreen says
It’s funny Shirley, but the only injuries I’ve ever sustained have been the result of working out. Sometimes I think coach potatoes have the right idea ;).

Hey Doreen,
Thanks so much for the update, and you, yourself, will be up in no time at all! Isn’t it so true that you keep something around for years, conveniently forgetting that it’s there, (the thought of using it makes you just a little nauseous), and then, when you really do need it, it’s gone! My own Tony Little Gazelle has had very little to do with making me look like the svelte animal for which it is named, apart from keeping my clothes looking ‘svelte’, as they hang nicely from its bars!;)
Take it easy, indulge, and soak up the winter blahs with little nourishing naps, in between!
Happy Tuesday!
xo

So glad to hear all went well and you are on your way to recovery (and I had to go and bother you about the apricot chicken recipe!!!) Sorry to hear that you are having Lightroom issues, but I hope you keep trying and eventually get the hang of it. I started using Picasa (which is probably totally different), and I have had my challenges trying to figure that out, but with each time I use it, I figure one new thing out, so I’m getting the hang of it, and hope you will have the same success with Lightroom. Take care, relax and keep up the good recovery ~ Amy
Doreen says
It was NO bother Amy!
I was using picasa for quite a while. I really liked it and found it very user friendly so if I can help in any way let me know. You’re right about it being different than Lightroom! It’s soooooooooo different, but like you, I’m trying to learn a little bit at a time so I don’t get overwhelmed. Part of the issue is I don’t take a lot of pics so I don’t get to practice a lot, especially lately, but I’m hoping that will change.

Hello Doreen! I think setting the date for the surgery was more of an issue than the surgery itself. It sounds like the surgery went very smoothly. I’m so glad. Now you take care of yourself and have a speedy recovery, which I think you’re well on your way to doing anyway. π xx
Cynthia says
Doreen I am so glad that the surgery is behind you and hope you heal quickly. I know it must be frustrating to deal with and the rehab is not fun. You will be up and about in no time but take advantage of the rest.

Thank you Cynthia! I actually went to ikea today in Paramus, so I am definitely out and about already. I was starting to get cabin fever! I picked up a shoe organizer…something for Fisherman to put together this weekend ;).
