I forgot painting with red was so challenging.
I covered up the Pepto Bismol pink primer with a true red color this past weekend, and realized red is very unforgiving. I ended up needing to paint two coats, which was a huge pain because it was super humid so everything took at least 12 hours to dry. I didn’t have enough paint to give the open part of the porch two coats, but I have enough to do touch ups so I’m just going to make that work.
The lighting on the porch is tough to work with, but I think you get the idea. This is a true tomato red color, so the rugs I talked about in this post are not gonna happen. Red can easily become overwhelming, so other than the floor I’m just going to do some accents in red. I know the red will get toned down a bit as time goes on, even if it’s just from the dust that will settle on it ;).
Here’s the rug I choose. I got it from Josh & Main, and hopefully will have it in less than 10 days.
Here’s a sample of the color I choose for the slipcovers, which I should be getting around the same time as the rug.
I want to change up the cocktail table too, and I’m thinking of a potential diy project with any one of these. This first one is simply crates that are stained and put together. This may be too big for the space though, but if I can find smaller crates it’s a frontrunner.
This is made from pallets and I like the look of it and the fact that it has storage too.

This doesn’t have storage and we would need to modify it naturally, but it would definitely be easier to make than the trunk and just might do the trick.
Here’s a look at what the porch looked like a few weeks ago. I think changing out the rug, adding a slipcover and changing the table will make a huge impact. The antique ironing board is now serving as a useful buffet table near the dining table inside the house, which really opened up that corner and will make it easier to access to clean…an important consideration for a space that is constantly getting dirty.
Once our deck is built in the back (that should get started within a couple of weeks!!), I’ll have more room to rearrange things and get a better feel for where everything will end up. Do you have a porch? Is it your favorite space in your home too?

Yes, I am Angela! It won’t happen overnight, but I’ll get there. It’s a bit challenging to get things done as quickly as I’d like because we are only there on weekends, plus we need time to play too ;).
