So…in spite of some freaky ‘happenings‘ at the cabin, I went up on Wednesday all by my lonesome last week to meet with the electrician on Thursday. We wanted to have some outlets installed on the deck. You know…every deck needs a fountain, maybe some music or a fan to keep the buggies at bay.
I made a couple of pillows (I’ll show you a super easy way to make envelope pillows soon) wired some broaches, and did some painting of the framing portion of the deck, but the best part of the week was the vintage treasures I scored.
Over the weekend there was a tag sale on the Town Green so a couple of friends and I went and we scored some great deals, but before I show you I wanted to give you a peek at a cute little dresser my friend Elaine had and I bought for only $10.00! It’s solid oak and the knobs are brass, and it’s the perfect size for the space I have in mind. Plus, the color is nearly perfect too. I may not do much at all to it. Not sure yet.
I think their shed is upstaging the dresser. Is it not the cutest??
I picked up some vintage looking handkerchiefs and stitched them together to make a curtain for the bedroom located in the basement. We had a simple shade before which let absolutely no light into the room at all so it was always super dark.
I love the way the light filters in through the curtain. I’m going to need at least 12 or maybe 15 more to do the other window in the room which is directly behind the bed, but when we enclose the area below the deck that window won’t get any light anyway so it will just be for aesthetics.
See the dresser? That’s not going to be it’s permanent home, but it does look pretty good there. I want to put it in one of the upstairs bedrooms since right now there are no drawers of any kind in that room and when our grandsons come everything ends up on the floor.
Notice the vintage suitcase? That was tagged at $3.00 and as an added bonus there’s a working sewing machine inside, and if you don’t already know, I’m a sucker for old sewing machines. I checked the manual and it is from 1956. I liked the shape of the case and it’s in pretty good condition. I’ve seen suitcases like these for more than $40 at Brimfield and they sure didn’t have sewing machines inside!
The next day we went to another tag sale and I picked up this vintage mason jar. You’ve seen the light blue mason jars making a huge comeback, I’m sure. This is the real McCoy and is at least 50 years old. It was $5.00. I have no idea if that was a good deal or not. Was it? It has the top, but as you can see I’m not using it for canning.
I couldn’t quite figure out where I wanted to put it, but I ended up leaving it in the kitchen window. Where do you like it best?
I also got a small 18k gold/diamond ring for $2.00, and Elaine gave me a vintage sconce and hooks for towels that look just perfect in our downstairs bath. I forgot to take a picture of them, but I’ll show you soon.
Not everything I got was a steal. I picked up some window lanterns that are battery operated. Looks like they were brand new, straight out of the box and from Brookstone. I got 9 for $4.00, but none of them work. I even asked the electricians to see if they could figure it out. Nope.
Have you found any treasures lately?

Yes, $5.00 is good for the jar. I picked up two and they were $9.00, which I understand was a bargain. The dresser is perfect!! I love the little suitcase. I lucked out on one from an estate sale — it was only $2.00. I just love getting a bargain!

Thank you Linda! I stopped by your blog and see you’re in NY. I’m in Westchester. Are you anywhere near me?

I’m guilty of not updating my blog in forever. I live out towards eastern Long Island. I do a lot of shopping out here. I’ve found some really good deals this summer. Where do you thrift/antique? We are thinking of going to Stormville in the fall.

I grew up on Long Island, and in fact will be visiting a friend in Montauk in a couple of weeks. I do most of my thrifting near our weekend place in Massachusetts, which is near the Berkshires. There are some awesome places up there, but I especially like the garage sales. That’s where you get the best deals by far.
I’ve been to Stormville a few times. It’s hit and miss. Flea Market Flip goes there sometimes.
Brimfield is the mother of all antique shows. The largest and best in the country, possibly the world. I’ve been a few times and may go next week as well.
I saw you haven’t updated your blog in a while, or I would have left you a comment ;). Thanks for stopping by Linda and I hope to see more of you!

I’ll be in California, or else I would have been going to Brimfield. Please post your finds, if you do go! I love it!!

Wow, you got some great finds! Love the dresser! I also really love the curtain you made from the vintage hankies. And I see vintage luggage at antiques stores all the time for like $40, and higher, you really did great on that!
