Labor Day Weekend my stepson, his wife Michelle and their sons, Mikey and Maddox, spent Saturday and Sunday night at the cabin with us. Saturday, before they arrived, Fisherman spent about 5 hours putting together a new grill for the deck, which ranks right up there with getting a colonoscopy. Who comes up with these instructions anyway??
The pictures that aren’t watermarked were taken by my stepson with his phone and they’re completed unedited. I think he has a knack for snapping the pic at just the right moment.
There is a children’s play center about 35 minutes away (trust me, that’s close!) so the guys spent a few hours there and Mikey hit the jackpot!
The weather was rainy most of the weekend, and we were planning on having some friends over on Sunday to initiate the grill and new deck and we were holding our breath that the rain would stop.
It was touch and go, but we were able to use the deck and the grill on Sunday. On Monday it cleared up and here’s Fisherman, me and the grands walking down to the lake. Our cabin is three houses away from the water, and while I’m sure grateful to have it, I would love waterfront!
Maddox is three and Mikey is 10. I don’t think Mikey gets more than 10 seconds of peace and quiet when Maddox is around. Maddox loves his older brother, and to say he’s his shadow is an understatement.
Although sometimes Mikey gets frustrated with Maddox, he loves him too and is a great older brother. He always has his back.
(What’s up with Maddox’s hair??!)
You didn’t think I would get through a post without some crafty thing to show you, did you??! Remember the easy envelope pillows I posted about a couple of weeks ago? Well, while the guys were at the play center, Michelle and I took advantage of our alone time and I showed her how to make them. Their living room is black, white and turquoise so this fabric that I had from Haven worked well.
The one on the left she sewed while I showed her the steps, but the one on the right she did pretty much on her own in less than an hour. Keep in mind Michelle has never sat behind a sewing machine in her life, so I think this proves anyone can do these!
We had to add a little bling ;).
When I was five I got my tonsils out, and back then they put a mask over your face and gave you ether, and this fabric reminds me of what you see while falling asleep.
I’ll leave you with these two pics of the boys, enjoying their game time with the iPad.
I wanted to show you these pictures last week, but after driving home for two hours, we realized we left not only Fisherman’s wallet at the cabin, but my iPad and camera too. He offered to drive back to get them, but I thought that was crazy! Plus, I ended up returning just two days later on Wednesday so that I could go to Brimfield on Thursday, so it wasn’t too bad, but I sure did miss my iPad!

That beach is awesome, those boys are adorable, and as a girl who’s lived through 2 colonoscopies and lived to tell the “tail”…you totally “cracked” me up with that metaphor!!

Now that’s what a lake house is made for, boys like Mikey and Maddox to come have a blast and give them memories for a lifetime. As a mother of 3 grown sons, and 1 daughter, I know I wish we had given ours more memories like this.
I too laughed at the colonoscopy joke as a wife who wrote down the wrong date of her husband’s colonoscopy. He didn’t speak to me all the way home, knowing he had to go through the prep 2 weeks in a row! Can’t really blame him, can you?

OMG Brenda!! That’s grounds for divorce! Everyone knows the prep is the worst part! That’s too, too funny (although I’m sure hubby wasn’t laughing).

Hello Doreen! Sounds like you had a lovely weekend with your family. I loved the pictures. The lake looks great and I love kayaking. Michelle’s pillows turned out very nice. This gives me hope that I too will be able to make nice pillows like this. I hope you’re having a great day so far.

I love the picture of the little one with all his tickets. You can see ‘glee’ written all over his face

Hello Doreen, these pictures really capture the moment – it looks like a very fun family weekend – I’ve been there before! I forgot my computer when going on vacation – I had to figure out how to use someone else’s computer and reset passwords etc! I’m glad you were able to get back – Brimfield is a dream destination! http://purplechocolathome.blogspot.com/2013/09/harvest-grapes-tablescape.html
