Do you ever find yourself in a crowd of people, look around and wonder what their lives are like, where they’re from, where they’re going, are they happy?
I do that all the time, and I wonder how many people have crossed my path whom, if I had come to know, would have changed my life somehow.
I’ve read that everyone we meet comes into our lives for one of two reasons: we will change them somehow, or they will change us.
Think about your everyday life for a moment. Did you ever stop to think that the person in line with you at the grocery store, under different circumstances, might have become the best friend you’ve ever had?
Metaphorically speaking, gardens are a lot like our lives.
Even weeds, when truly looked at, are beautiful.
People or things that we take for granted, or don’t pay much attention to, are the very thing that provides life to someone, or something, else.
Like an ordinary daylily at the end of summer, surrounded by weeds and foliage, we’re all trying to be noticed, to matter, to make a difference.
The Black-Eyed Susan’s are ubiquitous now, and can easily be overlooked in the garden. But when we take the time to truly look at them, their perfection is astounding.
Even as many flowers are saying goodbye for the winter, some are just beginning to bloom and continue to dazzle us.
Life gives us so many opportunities to appreciate beauty, to make someone’s day a bit brighter, but we’re so often caught up in our routine we miss the opportunity to do better, be better, every day.
Can you relate?

Thank you for this. I teach at an alternate school so it’s easy to get lost in the many things happening and forget about what matters. With school starting tomorrow, this is a nice reminder of the things that are truly important.

Ah yes…I love your beautiful pictures and beautiful musings. What a great way to look at the world around us – notice the beauty, reach out to others, be there for someone. Btw, I have some of those orange, double day lilies! They came from my mom who got them from her mom. A family heirloom. They make me smile! Have a good week, Doreen!

This is a lovely post, Doreen. I am the kind of person that wonders about people when in the car. Where are they all going, what are they going to do when they get to their destination? Are they shopping, going to see family? Weird I know but I do wonder this for some reason.

I think we’re very much alike, Doreen. I wonder about people’s lives a lot, especially in waiting rooms, where you are so bored there is nothing to do but observe. And like those pretty flowers in your garden, they become even more special in the way that a stranger does when they smile at you!

What a thoughtful post, Doreen! I love to pray for people that drive in the car in front of me or for the people in line with me, etc. You have reminded me not to overlook the obvious and to treasure all God put in our path!
Doreen, just like you! You came into my path and now I count you as a lovely blogging friend!

When we travel, I always look at houses and wonder who lives in them and what their every day lives are like. Blogging has opened up so much to me. I’ve met people from all over the world and found out how much we have in common! Hugs!
