We are in contract and hope to close on September 15th! I’ve gotten numerous emails wondering what’s happening with the sale so a quick post should answer most of the questions I’ve been asked.
Question #1: Where will you stay while the house is being built in NC?
Answer: In BAM, but it will take at least six months to build the house. That’s a loooonnnggg time to be cooped up in an RV. But I’m so easy going it should be no problem ;).
Question #2: Are you taking your furniture?
Answer: Not really. A few small pieces, but that’s about it. Luckily our buyer will be living at the cabin part time and wanted all our furniture. I’m looking forward to starting fresh!
Question #3: Can you use the facilities at your new community while the house is being built?
Answer: Good question! I asked our realtor down there, who also lives in the community, and she’s fairly confident we can, but not 100% sure.
Question #4: Will you keep BAM?
Answer: For the time being, absolutely. It will cost less to store it in NC (the community has their own storage facility), and I’m also anticipating we may want to get out of Dodge in the summer, so it may come in handy.
Question #5: Your area is so pretty. Won’t you miss it?
Answer: It is beautiful, and yes, I’m sure I will miss it at times, particularly the Autumn, but like most things in life, it’s a trade off. I’m hoping for a more active lifestyle and personal growth with this relocation, but only time will tell.
Question #6: Did you think it would take this long to sell your cabin?
Answer: No, I thought it would take longer! Many homes are on the market for six months or longer in our community, so selling in less than two months was a nice surprise.
We are decluttering and getting ready for the town tag sale on the 12th. We’re also packing things we know we won’t need like bakeware, cookbooks, craft items and general rarely used household items. If all goes well, we will be renting a one way U-Haul right after Labor Day and taking our stuff down to be stored. Fisherman will drive the U-Haul and I will drive our SUV. We will leave the SUV there and either fly back or rent a car. Then we will pick up BAM, load it up and take our other car in tow down to NC. Hectic but hey, that’s what moving is all about!
In other news…
Meanwhile, I’m still sewing like a madwoman. Here’s my latest beach bag. I used outdoor fabric for the outer fabric and plastic mesh for the inner and outside side pockets. This was the first time I ever installed grommets. It was a bit of a pain due to the thickness of the fabrics, but they’re worth it.
It’s a pretty big bag, and those pockets can easily hold an iPad mini, glasses, cell phone, or snickers bar :).
I made this next one this morning and I’m in ♥.
I was able to get this fabric in three color ways, and already started on the second bag which is more colorful, but I really like this neutral look. I also added a zipper pull and buttons which I think adds a lot to the overall look and feel of the bag.
I’m kinda bummed thinking about either not being able to sew OR that it will be challenging once we’re in BAM, but maybe the community will have a room I can work in.
It’s going to be an adventure!

So so happy and excited for you! Sounds like a great adventure already!!
Cyn says
Oops! Love both the bags too! What a talented lady you are. 🙂
Marilyn @ Pink Paper Cottage says
Oh congrats Doreen! So happy for you that you place sold so fast! And like Cyn said.. what an adventure! Sounds like it will be “fun”(???) doing that traveling and hauling and sorting, etc., but life IS an adventure right? It will all be new and exciting and even worth living in BAM for six months (or more :-)) while the new place is being built. I hope there is a community room in your new community that you can use for sewing and crafting…. a person can’t be without THAT for more than a couple of weeks! I can’t at least. Your beach bags are just awesome and so pretty. I’ve thought of making some canvas things, but as yet haven’t done it. I did get my bedroom curtains lined last week with a dark fabric as our bedroom gets the morning sun, blasting in thre at 6:00 a.m. ! That’s not my cup of tea as I sleep in later usually (am a night owl). Would be scary to leave all my furniture behind.. so many of the things are like my good old friends that I’ve had (and lugged around with me) for 40 years.. but sometimes I thought of doing that.. just starting fresh somewhere else. Keep us posted!!! Hugs.. Marilyn

As you can tell, I didn’t proofread! I meant “that YOUR place sold so fast”… sorry about that! Marilyn

I am just thrilled that the next step is happening and you are moving forward. I know that you are going to love it and you can do anything for six months or so when you know that you have a great outcome ahead of you. I think BAM will work out just great for that length of time. We lived on a 36 boat for three summers (4-1/2 months each time)and I absolutely loved it…some of the best times of my life.
Hope you have a great weekend—now get cracking! lol xo Diana
Oh- and I forgot–where did you end up finally? I know you went all over the south looking for the perfect place.
Rita C at Panoply says
Congratulations, Doreen! Wow, less than two months is a great success story! I have a friend who built on Lake Lure in NC and she & her husband lived in their RV for 18 mos – with two dogs and a cat! The town tag sale sounds like perfect timing, but that will be a lot of work too. Whew, makes me tired just thinking about it. The hardest part is having to keep the energy for so long….you’re gonna need a few Snickers bars! 😉
Take good care of yourselves, and try to plan some downtime every now and then. Looking forward to your adventure, and hoping for some inspiration. 😉

How exciting and nerve wracking at the same time! I’m looking forward to your posts of your wonderful life adventure. Keep an eye on your important documents! 🙂 (I remember your post about your stolen passport, etc from your last move.)

Congrats on he sale of your house. I’m sure it will be bittersweet leaving what you’ve put so much work into, but a new adventure sounds exciting. Take this entire process easy – no need for stress – you have the rest of your lives to live it. Sounds like fun to me. I know I’m in a rut, so thanks for the vicarious living. Keep blogging, even though you will be doing so out of BAM. We’ll all be looking forward to seeing what you’re doing.

So excited for you Doreen, beginning this adventure! It is always such a relief when our homes sell, I always felt in limbo until we had a contract then I felt like a horse out the gates at full speed. Love your beautiful bags and i hope you find a way to continue doing what you enjoy while you are on the move…..Have a wonderful day.

I’ve missed out on some things. I was reading along on a blog one day, and I thought to myself, why hasn’t Fox Den Rd. posted in awhile. And you know what, I went over and Blogger had taken you off my blog roll! They do this from time to time and it sometimes takes me awhile to figure out. So I don’t even know what’s been happening for awhile! Congratulations though!

Ahhhhhhh Yeah Woooo Hooo! Your cabin was so sweet I knew it would sell quickly even with the others on the market. Your home was cozy and beautiful. That is cool that the new owners will take on your furniture too. Less to move. I love the beach bags especially the doggie bags too adorable. I hope you can get your sewing done in BAM. Have a great weekend. Very excited for you. New chapter in life ahead!

Im so happy for you and your quick sell, Doreen. In this market, who knows? I wish you all the best and be careful in your travels to NC. I totally know that you will make living in BAM work!!!!
I’m loving your totes. I can’t help but think the material is thick and not so easy to work with so I admire you even more. All are very cute!

CONGRATS on a very smooth operation, all around!! You definitely are a DO-ER, Doreen and I know you love a challenge and tackle each one with fierce determination. So, making do in BAM, even for 6 months if necessary, will be another one you will live up to!
Maybe you could sell some of your pretty bags to your new North Carolina neighbours. ‘Made in the Berkshires’ should be enough for them to sell like hot cakes!
In the meantime, have fun packing!

Doreen, I am so thrilled for you! Not to go through the winter with a house on the market, how providential! And now it’s moving so quickly, like overnight almost. You are setting off on an adventure and I know you will sail through it with aplomb, hopefully taking us along the way with you. Congrats, both of you!
And truly a fabulous bag, Doreen!

YAY, DOREEN!!! So happy for you! Glad your home sold quickly, and that your furnishings will be enjoyed by someone new. Looking forward to reading about this new exciting chapter in your life. I’ll be taking notes, in case we decide to do something similar in a few years. LOVE the bags, and as cute as the doggie one is, I’m a sucker for cabana stripes — love it!

That’s good that your house sold quickly. Now, you will just have to make do until your house is built. It will go by much quicker than you think. Our house sold the first day of open house. Here in California, houses sell faster than you can pack up your belongings haha. I hope for a smooth road through all of this, Doreen. I can’t believe you’re leaving all your furniture behind. I hope the buyer appreciates that. The tote bags you made are so cute. Love the cheerful yellow.
Keep yourself busy, and you’ll be in your new house before ya know it.

Wow, congratulations! Things are moving quickly! I’ve always thought it would be hard to leave New England but I think I could, especially if I was headed to the Carolinas! Enjoy the adventure! Your sewing is fantastic, I love both bags….but I love that dog fabric! It’s awesome!! Take care!

Doreen, things are moving right along. So glad that your beautiful cabin sold so quickly. Living in BAM shouldn’t be so bad, but just think how much sweeter it will be to get your home finished. Can’t wait to see the progress along the way. We are throwing around the idea of selling our MOHO but it certainly would come in handy for an occasion like yours. The storage is the killer and lucky you will have a place for it in your new community..Have a wonderful weekend..Judy
Melanie says
Congrats on the pending sale of your house! Sounds like exciting times are ahead of you. Your bags are just fabulous. You could be selling these at craft fairs or on etsy – in your spare time! 😉

Please keep us posted as you move forward to your next adventure.
I love your bags.

Doreen,
That’s such great news and must be a relief that you’re selling sooner than you expected so you can start the next phase of several exciting phases. 6 months in BAM? This could be reality show worthy, in the best of ways, of course. I’ve no doubt you and Fisherman are going to pull it off. Looking forward to following along. And your bags…soo cute!!!
Al says
Yay! Congrats on the quick sale of your current house. I’m not surprised, given all the work you’ve put into it. I look forward to watching the progress on your new house, both during the building and as you settle in and decorate.
