This is going to be short and sweet.
Unless you’ve been hanging out in Siberia lately, you’ve seen the numerous chalk paint projects that many bloggers (including moi) have been doing. The one thing that maybe you haven’t seen or heard about is how to clean the surface after it’s been painted and used. Or maybe you have and it’s just me, and I’m the one who’s out of the loop. Trust me, it wouldn’t be the first time.
I gave our fridge at the cabin a quick redo with some chalk paint recently. I decided to ‘prime’ it, which is basically covering the surface with chalk after the paint has dried, letting it sit for a few minutes then wiping it off. Well, it didn’t exactly go according to plan and it ended up looking terrible. I did some research and found a quick and easy way to clean chalk paint. Ready??
Good ole’ Coca Cola does the trick.
Here’s what the fridge looked like before the magic potion was used…
And here’s what it looked like after it was wiped down with a lint free cloth and coke…
I’m so glad I found out about this little trick because there’s no way I would have been happy with a fridge that looks like it belongs on Sesame Street. I don’t know what it is about the Coke or if another type of soda would also work, but I’m a ‘if it ain’t broken don’t fix it kinda gal’ so Coke has a permanent place in my house now.

Do you wipe the coke on and then wipe it off? Doesn’t it make it sticky?
Doreen Sargente says
That’s a good question Paula, but it’s one I don’t have an answer to right now. I didn’t wipe it off and I didn’t notice any stickiness, but I will check next weekend when we return to the cabin. I suppose if it is sticky, wiping it off with plain water might be a good solution.

Hi Paula! I wanted to follow up with you about any potential stickiness from the coke. Nope. It feels fine so that doesn’t seem to be an issue.

This is a reminder of all the benefits of Coke, don’t forget cleaning your car battery too! I just wonder what it does to our inner parts LOL!

Another comment from me, I love, love, your new header! Would love to hear more about that. Sometimes a blog facelift is a good thing (Even though I love my header pic)
