In my last post I mentioned I was going to Brimfield for some brooches and I was hoping to finish up the kitchen cabinets and do a quick outdoor cushion project this past weekend. I’m happy to say I was able to check off everything on my ‘to-do’ list (that almost never happens), plus, I made this adorable button bouquet. I was inspired by a bouquet I saw on BHG’s website that was just too darn cute. I already had lots of buttons so this was a perfect project and I have to say I enjoyed the process of figuring out the button combinations of colors and sizes. This project is a bit time consuming, but it’s not difficult to do and you don’t need a ton of space so you could easily do it while watching TV if you’re a multi-tasker.
Supplies Needed
- Buttons of various sizes, colors and patterns
- Floral Wire
- Oasis
- Vase
- Wire Cutter
- Floral Tape (optional)
- Hot glue gun (optional)
- Faux silk flowers (optional)
How-To
Decide how high you want your ‘flowers’ to be based on the size of the vase you’re using. Whatever that measurement is, double it and cut the wire to that length. I used a small planter as a vase so my wire was only around 16″ with a finished height around 8″. Thread the buttons half way down the wire starting with the largest and ending with the smallest. Ideally you will want to use 4 or 5 buttons for each flower. Thread the wire back through the buttons and twist the florist’s wire to create a stem. If using, hot glue faux flower petals to the bottom of the largest button. Place stems in oasis and arrange stems as desired.
I just love this! Think of the possibilities…you can make the stems as short or as long and you want and it can be custom designed to coordinate with any color palette. BHG featured this as something to give Dad for Father’s Day. Personally, I’m not feelin’ it as a gift for Dad, but I suppose you could use masculine buttons in darker colors and it might work. What do you think?
