Talk about a weird post title for SEO, not to mention that it’s the end of February and Santa is a distant memory for most of us. And he would be for me too, except I’ve got a Santa on my porch that greets me every time I go to the cabin and there’s no escaping him. Let me ‘splain…
A few years ago there was an ugly plastic snowman that found its way onto our friends’ porches and doorsteps. No one knew who put him there, we just knew it was one of our friends. So we in turn did the same thing and left it on someone else’s porch, and on and on it went. Last I heard he’s in New Hampshire now, but not to worry because now we have Santa to take his place. I found him on my porch the weekend prior to my birthday, hence the note.
Never a dull moment…;)
Remember last month when I showed you this shoe organizer from Ikea? Well, I got one and I LOVE IT! It’s not exactly the same one as I showed you in the post though. The one I got is a tiny bit smaller and the front doesn’t have any knobs. I only needed something for a few pairs of shoes and the smaller one is the perfect size.
There are two entrances to the cabin from the front, but we almost always use the one attached to the porch. When you walk in and look to the left this is what you see:
There used to be a hideous black rubber tray on the floor with big, manly, smelly, dirty shoes cluttering up the space. Yuck.
It was $90 and worth every penny. It took Fisherman a while to put it together…ok, pretty much ALL DAY Saturday, and I’m pretty sure he would disagree that it was worth it but he’s a guy. ‘Nuf said.
You know where I went while Fisherman was slaving away? I did one more ‘brooch run’. I have about 80 of them and I’m hoping to get the bouquet together this weekend. Our daughter is coming home Thursday for 10 days and I’d like for her to see it before she goes back. She’ll be turning 28 on Monday. Hard to believe how THAT happened. We’ll be going for her first fitting at Kleinfeld’s next week, and she may wear my veil if it’s in good shape but the box hasn’t been opened for more than 30 years so I’ll have to get back to you on that.
BUT, the big news is while I was out hunting for brooches, I came across a shop that sells MMSMP! She’s one of two in the entire state of Connecticut and she gives workshops! I hope to take one and I’ll definitely take pics and let you know how it went. I took a quick class at Haven in August using the paint and I really liked it so I’m anxious to find something to work on that would be appropriate.
Have you ever used it? What did you think? How about ASCP? I’ve used it and have to say I really like it. A little goes a really long way and I love the coverage, but supposedly MMSMP is a better value, and it’s in powder form so it lasts forever.
One more thing before I let you go. These photos came out of iPhoto, not Lightroom. UGH! When I put my SD card in, the photos didn’t upload. So I tried connecting the usb cable and voila, only they went straight to iPhoto and to be honest I didn’t think they needed any fancy smancy editing so I didn’t bother to transfer them to LR. Does anyone know how to tell if your SD card is compromised? I googled it but came up empty. Funny thing is I bought LR to get into editing and photography more, but it’s so intimidating it’s actually holding me back. I think I need to step back for a bit and get into it at a later date. Right now I have too many things going on (I’ll share some of them in a few weeks) that I can’t really concentrate on learning too many new things, KWIM?

Haha, love the Santa! Too funny! Wonder if I could start a prank like that – hm…
I don’t think I could ever convince Bruce to put his shoes up; I have a hard enough time convincing him to pull them off when he comes in. Sigh. Love the shoe holder though; it’s a great idea!
Enjoy your daughter and the time spent with her. Hope you get a lot accomplished!

LOVE the Santa! I’m sure you’re strategizing his next move!!! I really like your shoe storage! Perfect and looks so clean and organized! It would take my dear hubby all day to put together too, along with a six pack of beer! I’m so anxious to see your brooch bouquet! Enjoy your daughter and have tons of fun (like I need to encourage that!)!! ~~Ang

That cowboy Santa is the cutest thing! I love the story behind it. I really like that new shoe organizer too. I like how slender it is and the drawers tuck back in when not in use. I’d love to help you out about the photo thing, but I’m not familiar with what you mentioned. I just take my pictures on my camera and download them onto my computer. Then I edit them in picmonkey.

What a fun story about the Santa. Some fun neighbors. Have a great time with your daughter and how exciting for her and you. Maybe you can have a nice lunch somewhere. This is a special mom and daughter time. I can’t wait to see the bouquet.

That Santa is too funny. Are you going to leave it on someone else’s porch next year?
Doreen says
Actually, Magali, I’m not going to wait that long! He’s cute, but not something I want hanging around in the heat of summer :). I give him a few more weeks at best.

Merry Christmas, and Happy Birthday, Doreen! What a fun gag gift, a gift that keeps on giving it seems. Did I hear you say that the snowman has made his way to New Hampshire? How cool is that? Have fun with your daughter’s visit. My friend’s daughter had a brooch bouquet for her wedding, it was gorgeous! I’ll bet she’s going to love it.
Doreen says
Thank you Amy! Yes, he found his way from Massachusetts to New Hampshire lol. Friends of friends live there. It’s really too funny!
I would love to see the bouquet! Did she have it made or did she make it herself?

Merry Birthday, Doreen!!
Keep the Santa; there’s something about silver haired dudes that’s very attractive (my hubby went salt and pepper in his mid 30s and got many adoring looks). This guy looks great in a cowboy hat, what else could you ask for?
Your Ikea shoe organizer is a magical multi-tasker; decoratively de-cluttering and delightfully deodourizing – a real shoo-in for a happy hallway!
How wonderful that you will spend some quality time with your beautiful daughter! Have fun at the fittings; what a joy!!

PS: NOBODY knows how it HAPPENS, all we do know is that it happens TOO FAST!!!

Thanks for sharing the Santa story, it sounds like so much fun to do! I have never tried the paints and think I will check if any are sold around here too. I wish I could go to Haven this year…maybe. My wedding dress is sill all boxed up too, how fun your daughter may wear your veil. I am with you all the way for learning something new right now as I feel overwhelmed with all I am doing for now. Happy Birthday
