Well folks, I went and did it. I flew half way around the world for the privilege of getting sick. It started on Mother’s Day while we were still in Singapore. I was dreading the plane ride on Tuesday to Cambodia, and hoping against hope I would get better and be able to enjoy our time in Siem Reap. But it was not to be.
A Garden Round Up
Soon we’ll be flying eastward, waaayyyyy eastward, to see our daughter, son in law and our grand dog, Charlie. It has been four years since I’ve seen him, and for sure I’ll be bringing his favorite snack, Cheerios, as they are not available in Singapore. That in itself warrants them coming back to the states, don’t you think? I’ve been super busy getting ready and working
The Panhandle, Jekyll Island & Myrtle Beach
Are you ready for my fourth (and final) post on Florida? I hope so, ’cause here it comes…(If you missed the first three, click here for our take on Naples, here for the scoop on Venice, and here for Rainbow Springs.) On March 6th we left Rainbow Springs in central Florida and took the looonnnng drive, (with our defective car in tow), to Topsail State Park,
Rainbow Springs, Florida
I last left you with an overview of the Venice area, which we thoroughly enjoyed and were sorry to leave, but on March 1st, that’s just what we did. We meandered toward the Panhandle, but not before stopping off in Central Florida to break up the long, 10 hour drive. We stayed at a state park called Rainbow Springs, located about 30 miles outside Ocala. This was our first time staying
The Scoop on Venice Florida
If Florida was a person, it’s name would be Sybil. You’ve heard the expression ‘if you don’t like the weather, wait an hour?’ Well, if you don’t like where you are in Florida, drive an hour in any direction and you will find something different. There truly is something for everyone in the sunshine state. Whether you gravitate toward sophisticated, upscale areas (Palm Beach, Naples), or you
We’re Back! (A Florida Recap)
We got home on Friday the 25th of March, which means we were gone more than 3 months, the longest we’ve ever been away from home. When you’re gone that long, you learn a lot. Like what to bring along next time (more casual clothes) and what to leave behind (less dressy clothes for starters). Basically, if you’re not barefoot or wearing flip flops, you’re
A Whimsical Collection of Gingerbread Houses
I’ve always had a thing for gingerbread houses. The design possibilities are endless, and it’s so much fun to gather the supplies and candy and let your imagination take over. For several years I made gingerbread houses every year with our grandson which I showed you here and here, but children get older and the enthusiasm for these types of crafts often wanes. But my love
Candy Cane Crafts
December is a month chock full of celebrations. It seems every weekend is an excuse to get together with friends and family, and it’s a perfect time to pull out all the stops and make everything a little extra special. To me, candy canes are the quintessential holiday candy. They’re cute, great for making all kinds of crafts, and super inexpensive. Here are a few
Making Multi-Loop Bows (and Wreaths)
Making pretty bows had never been my strong suit. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t get them right. The loops ended up looking floppy, were different sizes and just ‘eh’. I’m convinced that one has to either have an innate knack for making bows, or be in a position that requires making bows regularly, resulting in practice, practice, practice. Most of us don’t
Manolo Blahnik ‘Planters’
If you’re a Manolo Blahnik fan, you’re gonna love this post ;). Remember the ‘Set To Celebrate‘ event I went to a couple of weeks ago? Did you think I was going to forget to show you my favorite display?? Never happen. The display was set up in a round room that had walls temporarily covered with over 40,000 lemon leaves. It took several people three full
