Would you like a tour of our weekend cabin? Who would you like to show you around? Think about that carefully, because if it’s me, this is what you’ll see…
Upon opening the door to the screened in porch, you’ll enter one of my favorite spaces. You’ll often find me here drinking my morning coffee, surfing the internet (ok, Pinterest) or reading. I love to be here when it’s raining too and just listen to the rain on the roof and smell the refreshed air it brings with it.
If the bugs aren’t out, how about we sit in the open part of the porch?
It’s getting chilly, so let’s step inside and warm up for a bit. The first thing you’ll see when you come in from the screened in porch on your left is our piano bar.
Fisherman makes a killer martini. How would you like yours, shaken not stirred?
Just behind the piano are the stairs leading to the basement. Patience Grasshopper. We’ll visit there soon.
We can sit at the cozy dining table while we have our drink…
If you’re hungry, let’s sit at the kitchen island and grab a snack.
But that’s not nearly as comfy as sitting in the living room…
Don’t get too comfortable though, I still have to show you a few more rooms before you see Fisherman’s favorite spaces.
The Master Bedroom is not very large, but big enough for our needs. It holds a comfy king size bed and houses a small walk in closet and en suite bath.
Here’s the very first craft project I shared with you all over a year ago shortly after I started blogging. Copper ‘leaves’ on twigs that came from a twig wreath.
If you open the door on the right, you’ll enter the bathroom. Except for the electrical and plumbing, Fisherman and I did this bathroom ourselves from scratch; the walls, ceiling, flooring, cabinet, mirrors…everything.
Fisherman is most proud of the miter cuts around the window. He’d rather have his nose hairs pulled one by one than do a project that involves miter cuts.
Just across the hall is the bedroom our grandsons use when they come up with us for the weekend. The bed is a trundle so can easily sleep two. Fisherman made the shelving which houses the gingerbread houses I’ve made each year with Mikey for four consecutive years. To get a close up view, click on the link. They’re adorable if I must say so myself.
Mikey’s favorite spot in the house is the loft. He’s decked it out pretty well, with cardboard boxes for a ‘fort’, foam padding which I’ve covered in fabric, some lighting and even snacks. He would spend all day up there if we let him!
Now that you’ve seen Mikey’s favorite room, it’s time for mine, so let’s go downstairs.
No explanation needed I assume? Just in case though, you can go here to see a bit more of my craft room.
Since we’re down here, let me show you where you’ll be sleeping tonight. It’s a nice size room with a queen bed and a small private bath.
If you’re not tired, grab a book and make yourself comfortable on the leather recliner.
Now if Fisherman were showing you the house, he would have skipped the bedrooms, the kitchen and the living room and taken you straight to his man cave.
He’d invite you to watch the game with him on this super comfy reclining coach…
Or maybe challenge you to a game of pool, air hockey or ping pong.
And of course, he’ll make you one of his famous martinis if you like.
He won’t let you leave without showing you ‘Buck’, the singing deer.
Are you on rustic overload yet?? How about we head outside now?
In the morning, maybe we’ll have breakfast on the deck. Buttermilk blueberry pancakes sound ok?
Of course, after breakfast we have to take the two minute walk to the lake!
Grab a boat and enjoy the beautiful day.
As evening comes, maybe we’ll get lucky and see a lovely sunset…
and have a bonfire and roast some marshmallows.
If you’d like to see some of the before and afters of the basement and bedrooms, click here.
Psssst…you’re not going to believe the ‘before’s’!
I hope you enjoyed your visit at our cabin because we loved having you!

Wow! I’m packing my bags! Ha,ha! I had no idea the cabin was so big. I love every room. If it were Basketball season I would hang out in the man cave with fisherman watching the games and having martinis. That lake is marvelous. I love kayaking, so I’d be out there a lot, and after getting back curling up in that screened porch with a good book would be divine. One can fantasize. Ha,ha! Thanks so much for the tour Doreen!

It looks a lot bigger once you get inside!! Is this where you live now, or it is a retreat? It’s gorgeous…and I looked at the before pics and I can’t believe the difference. That piano bar may be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen…

You’re right Andi. I think it looks bigger on the inside because we have high ceilings in the main living area and from the front it looks like a one story. Right now, this is a weekend place (see the notes at the end of my post for more info) but when we retire we will spend more time there. Maybe not the winters but definitely when the weather is nice.
The piano was a ‘lemon into lemonade’ moment. The previous owners left it there and we literally couldn’t give it away so we pimped it up. All I can play is chopsticks so it’s far more useful now. 😉

Thanks so much for the tour, Doreen! I would be in heaven at your place! Hubby would, too, he’s always wanted a real log cabin. I love how you’ve kept everything looking so authentic, and it also looks so cozy and comfy! I think my favorite room is the kitchen, it really looks huge and I love all of the cabinets. How lucky you are! I hope you get to visit often! You’ve done a great job making it a home!
XO,
Jane

Oh my….where do I begin!! I love it all!!! That martini bar is beyond awesomeness and I’d love to hear “buck” the talking deer! I can just imagine sitting on your deck enjoying mother nature or curled up by the fire enjoying something warm! You’ve done a beautiful job on your cabin and I hope one day I can visit and we can enjoy a cuppa something warm together!! Wonderful, my friend! 🙂

Hi Doreen,
Your beautiful cabin, which looks so cozy and cute, even from the outside, is firstly, MUCH bigger than I had imagined! I love all the primary colours, especially in my favourite space, the screened in porch! Of course, being a cabin, the wood accents, both in the furniture and the structural, are warm and welcoming, as is the whole feeling of the cabin. Your guests are lucky campers, being able to walk to that gorgeous lake, indulge in dramatic sunsets and roasted marshmellow treats, and then cocoon in the cabin!
Thanks for sharing all the fun!
