Sunset has always been my favorite time of day, and it is by far the best time to be on the lake.
Most of the community residents are at home at that time, busily cooking dinner, helping their children with homework, or themselves returning home from work.
They are too busy to think about taking a quick trip around the lake with their kayak, canoe or sunfish that dot the beaches.
But I’m not.
And since it was a special night, the night of the blue moon, not everyone was at home.
Just as the sun was setting, the sky turned a light amber color. So pretty!
Notice anything different? You can’t tell, but it’s just near the beach.
There it is again, but this time it’s in the water.
And this time it won’t be ignored! Now it’s in the trees.
Interesting, isn’t it?
Now it’s in the sky.
I have no idea what it is, and I googled it but came up empty.
If you know, do tell!
Saturday night there was a ‘paint n sip’ in the clubhouse. I didn’t attend, but a couple of friends did.
They had a blast, and turned out some cool paintings!
I love how they’re all different, reflecting each person’s interpretation of the ocean. Class was over around 8:30, and a few of us had a bonfire on the beach. And in case you’re wondering, fire colors were added to this fire.
And a little sparkler to top off a lovely summer evening.
So tell me, are you a lake person or a beach person? Or maybe you prefer the mountains?
As for me, I want an ocean view in front, and a lake and mountains in the back. Is that asking too much?
In other news…
We cleaned up the firepit area, and we went to a junk yard to find a tire rim and got lucky. I’ve never been to a junk yard before, have you? Because if you have, why didn’t you tell me to leave my glittery sandals at home??
Remember I mentioned I was using decals in our guest bath, but they didn’t send the right quantity? That was about two months ago, and in the meantime I’ve been looking at a tub surround partially covered in the decals. They sent more, but they were a slightly different design and they wouldn’t line up, so they sent yet another batch and guess what? They’re a different design and won’t work. This project is taking forever…
I had jury duty today for a criminal case involving breaking and entering and assault with a deadly weapon. Might have been interesting. Initially, I was one of 20 people picked by the judge, but was later dismissed by the Defense Attorney. Maybe he didn’t like that my brother-in-law and his wife were in law enforcement, or maybe he didn’t like my wardrobe choices. I ask you, what’s wrong with white socks and sandals?? Is that any worse than plaid shorts and a striped shirt?
Oh wait…I had those too. :/

Good Morning Doreen,
Wow! These photos are amazing as was this evening. What beautiful scenery and oh this water is pure magic as is the moon. Of course, I have been humming “Blue Moon,” as I read your post, you have a piece of paradise in your neck of the woods, so peaceful and tranquil.
Glad your jury duty was cut short-you have so many better ways to spend the last days of Summer-like kayaking on this lake and enjoying a bonfire on the beach with good friends.
Glad you are enjoying your Summer days, my friend.

You always make me laugh! I don’t know what that is. Can be a reflection of the moon somehow? If not that, then I guess you have lake extra terrestrials joining you there in your community. Boy, how I’d love to live there and have that lake to gaze out at. I’d probably never put my camera away.

LOLOL.
beautiful pictures of the blue moon first.
second… i do believe not wearing glittery sandals to a junk pile falls under the heading of common sense. 🙂
rather like marie antoinette saying… “let them eat cake!” LOL.
and … socks with sandals??? i don’t believe that for a minute about you.
i don’t wear WHITE socks with summer sandals. but i am known to wear beautiful dark toned english looking knee socks with sturdy winter sandals! i love them! and i know from prior conversations what you really think of sock and sandals.
my goodness. you live in a beautiful place. you lucky girl. thanks so much for sharing it with us! xoxo♥
oh yes… i would prefer forest or mountains or sea. and so… here i am on the flat hot plain prairie! LOL.
Doreen says
lol I put that in the post for your benefit Tammy ;).

Oh I’m so envious of that wonderful serene lake! I am a “water girl”…. and right now living far from water! go figure. I need water somewhere in the vicinity of where I live… even if I can just sit and gaze at it. I don’t need to get IN it! Love the mountains too, and the beach, and lakes, rivers, streams… love it all. Your photos are enchanting and don’t know what the double moon shots are… like Brenda said, maybe a visitor from ????? I so wish I had a lake to gaze at during the day.. or any time for that matter… but I too will be moving a a very hot dry climate.. but at least there will be a lake about 8 miles away!

Gorgeous photos my Dear…well except for the weird creepy orb part!?! I’m guessing it’s some reflective light play from your camera and the water, but you never know (insert twilight zone music here).
I’m like you- I want it all! I have the lake which is just home to me. But the mountains always take my breath away when I get to see them…and sitting on the beach by a campfire by the ocean is so zen and hypnotizing. So ya, I’ll just take all 3 please.
I’ve always wanted to do a painting kind of class and just talked to my neighbor/girlfriend about doing it soon – so we’ll see!
What a pain in the you-know-what on those decals!! Tell them to get their act together!! Gggrrr.
I love your closing argument…err statement. I always guessed you were one snappy dresser. (you crack me up Lady).
Have a lovely weekend!! xo

I have no idea what the hell that orb is, but it creeps me out. Especially because it kept moving. I think Brenda is right about the aliens O.o The pictures are beautiful though 🙂
Um yeah… sandals are not a good idea at a junk yard, especially glittery ones 😉
I’m sorry about the decals. That sucks eggs. But yay! on the no jury duty. I would tell them anything I could to get out of that, including making things up lol And I also don’t believe for a minute that you wore that stuff either :p

Whatever it was, I thought it was pretty cool. But your pictures are so good! And that one of the house with the lights on reflected in the lake was magnificent!
I am a mountain girl myself but lake would be second, lake hight in a mountain like Lake Junaluska NC would be my idea of heaven. Your lake community sounds so neighborly. I was excused from jury duty one time simply because I had one friend who was a police officer. Of course the defendant was in the police force.
Doreen says
That might be why I was excused too. My bil and sil were in law enforcement.
I’ve never heard of that lake in NC. Maybe one day during our travels with BAM we can check it out.

Hm, interesting photos and cool! I think it’s a reflection somehow but whatever it was, they sure look good. I’m jealous of your beautiful area – I love the lake and the ocean. I like mountains ok if I don’t have to look down! Anyway, all your photos are beautiful and it all looks so inviting and cool. (Not the 100+ heat we’re having).
Argh on the decals and lol about the jury duty attire. I usually get excused because my dad had been a policeman and they think I can’t be impartial.
Doreen says
It’s funny you said that Cecilia. My bil and sil were in law enforcement. The judge put me through, but the defense attorney didn’t. The case was breaking and entering, assault with a deadly weapon and there were lots of witnesses. I think he knew his client was guilty. I don’t think I could ever be a defense attorney…

Beautiful photos, Doreen. I’m with you in that I love it all! I spent most of my life by the ocean and now I’m in the mountains with a lake nearby. I guess I’m just happy to bloom where I’m planted!
Shirley@Housepitality Designs says
I am with you Doreen..I want both views!!!….love, love your gorgeous photos!!!
Amy @ Ms. Toody Goo Shoes says
I was truly going to have a hard time answering your question, Doreen, so I’m glad that you admitted you’d love all three. I’m probably a beach person first, but there is something so romantic about a lake to me. I would love to live on a lake someday, with mountains in the background! Loved all of your photos, especially seeing all those houses on the lake. And, oh that fire picture! Fabulous!
Jane says
Such pretty pictures…so this is the name of the lake you live on? Are you close? Am I nosy?! Have no idea what that spot is but it’s interesting. Are these homes on the lake?—totally gorgeous! I like that you have a clubhouse. We have a “Yacht Club”, alas, no yachts! But some great activities that really require you to live year round. 🙁
I’ve always loved lakes, being from the Midwest, and I came to love ocean vacations. When we bought the condo in Asheville…OMG, the mountains are incredible—so, so different from flat Illinois. Yes, I’m spoiled. Tired of defending my hubby’s plan to by property for a good retirement in 4 years. Some don’t get it. Still I feel blessed and happy.

It’s not the name of the lake, but that would be a nice name for one :). I named the post ‘blue moon’ because it was the night of the blue moon. These homes are on the lake and yes, we’re very close. Two houses away to be exact, but alas, no water view :(.
Deb @ Frugal Little Bungalow says
This was fun 🙂 I have a FB friend whose grandson is really into the full moons. The Blue Moon was obscured by clouds here but I caught it a day or two later for her / him in the wee A.M.
I love YOURS 🙂

Hi Doreen! The pictures are great! I thought that mysterious sphere was the reflection of the moon coming up. I have several lakes near where I live, I love the beach but no mountains here in Florida. Rivers are great too. 😉 That picture of the fire is awesome! I didn’t know you can add color to the flames!
You’re hilarious! That was some outfit, but you were probably not chosen because of you law enforcement kin. 😀 xx

You took lovely pictures at dusk. Those houses on the lake are beautiful.

so glad you took the time lovely, lovely shots. Oh and and when you find that ocean front mountain back house, let me know~ 🙂
