I got inspired to write this post because, frankly, I got my knickers in a knot. A few weeks ago I came across an episode of ‘That 80s Show’. Apparently, it was a spin off its more successful predecessor, ‘That 70s Show’, but failed miserably in the ratings and lasted 13 episodes. The show pretty much ragged on fads that occurred in the 80’s. Ok, so maybe the ‘big-hair’ 80’s wasn’t our finest moment, but are you seriously going to put armoires on the chopping block? They pretty much said anyone who still owns an armoire is about as out of touch with modern day life as an old man in Boca wearing white socks and sandals. (And if you’re reading this and you know someone who does that, it’s not a good look. Just sayin’.)
Sure, almost everyone has brought their tv out into the open, us included, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s like putting lipstick on a pig. I’d rather just hide the pig.
I’ve yet to come across a tv as pretty as this…
or this…(cute pooch too)

or this…
and definitely not this!
And check out this beauty that was listed on etsy (sorry, it’s sold).
I would love to have an armoire in my bathroom to store linens. It’s so, well, it’s just so pretty and elegant!
Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t have an exposed tv. As I mentioned, we do as well. Sometimes it’s just the practical thing to do. What I AM saying is there is no way an armoire should be considered a decorating faux paux. Seriously?? That’s like saying a ’59 Thunderbird is a relic. There are few furniture pieces as beautiful as armoires. Come to think of it, I’m glad no one wants them anymore. Maybe as the demand goes down, so shall the prices. More for me then!
What do you think? Do you have your tv’s out in the open? Is that your preference, or would you prefer to hide them?

One tv in an armoire, one out in the open here. Personally I prefer the armoire but there is not a lot of space available on the one that is out in the open!

Ditto. We moved from a 4 bedroom/2.5 bath home in December to a 2 bedroom/1 bath rental. The movers couldn’t navigate the armoire due to the small hallway width so it ended up in the other bedroom and the master has a tv out in the open. There are worse things in life, but I miss my armoire. We still have a TV in an armoire in the living room . 🙂

I love armoires and hate TVs so I guess I am totally in the minority. But seriously, who would not want one of the lovely pieces you showed?
We don’t own a TV and when we got rid of it, we disposed of the armoire housed in it. The reason we got rid of it was that the armoire was too big in our little cottage, we never watched the TV and the house looks so much better without it. We don’t miss the TV or the armoire at all since we replaced the armoire with smaller storage pieces.
The only problem without a TV is when we have someone stay at our house to watch the dog. We let them know there is no TV. When we return they say that with no TV they spent lots of time on the beach with the dog or in the garden.
Have a great weekend!

Welllll, we still have our tv in an armoire. We actually bought one(from a friend selling their’s) that would hold our flat-screen. I like being able to hide it occasionally. Besides, I think they are a classic piece that can be used in all sorts of ways.
