Today was a good day. No, it was a great day. The kind of day that everything went my way, from the gorgeous weather, to the tips I received about my camera, the hidden neighborhood I discovered that is to die for, and even the great parking spot I scored.
We went to an absolutely gorgeous garden that happens to be privately owned and is open to the public only two days a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. The display of daffodils was nothing short of spectacular. There are abut 75,000 of their cute faces smiling at you, and the volunteers at the garden said on the actual day they’re open this kind of display only happens about once every five years or so. See, I told you. The Gods were smiling on me today.
On the grounds is an interesting grotto. Once inside, there is a ‘window’ that looks out onto the in ground pool. There is a small table in the grotto and my friends and I were commenting how it would be a beautiful spot for a proposal. You have to walk over the rocks that you see here to get to it. There is also a secret door made of stone that can’t be opened easily, but that didn’t stop us from trying.
This is one of many, many sculptures on the grounds. Do you know who he is? I don’t.
Doesn’t the sky look like wallpaper?
I waited for several minutes before I was not only able to get the bee in the picture, but no humans! Can you see it?
Weeping willows are my favorite trees by far. The way they sway with the breezes and leave a lovely dappled shade in their undercover is simply poetic.
You know me, if there’s a pooch around, I’m getting his picture.
After our tour of the gardens, we were starving and decided to have lunch somewhere. We passed a church rummage sale and after lunch we went back. Turns out, the sale wasn’t today. They were just accepting donations in preparation for the sale and wow, were they getting them! We asked a lady at the gate if we could walk around and she said ok, but it became apparent we really weren’t welcome. Once inside, a lady told me we shouldn’t be there and when I told her we got permission she looked at my camera and asked, ‘oh, are you here to publicize the event’? I didn’t miss a beat and I said ‘yes’. Hey, sometimes ya’ gotta do what ya’ gotta do in the name of thrifting.
I love sleds like these, and they’re only $5.00!
I think the toboggan in the background is around 12′ long!
I’m in the market for a dresser, and this is just about the right size but I didn’t have the SUV, plus it won’t be on sale until tomorrow. I would LOVE to return and clean up!
We parked our car in front of this house. Isn’t it adorable?!
So now you know why I said it was a good day. Beautiful flowers, good food and a rummage sale. Pure heaven. I guess the only thing that could have been better would have been if the sale was open, but tomorrow’s another day…

Just beautiful! There is something so striking about those first few pics with the daffodils and the trees just prior to budding. If that doesn’t say “SPRING IS HERE” then I don’t know what does! Great pics!

Oh my! I feel like I’ve had quite a day just reading through your post – I was right with you the whole way! The daffodil garden and grounds is fabulous. You captured it all so well on film! And then on to the great yard sale! ( I’d love to have some of those items. ) I hope you go back to get the dresser so we can see what you do with it 🙂 Thanks you for sharing your perfect day. So lovely. Oh, and I couldn’t help myself: I had to search around on the internet to see if I could figure out the subject of that sculpture. Almost looked like Handel…..but not quite. Maybe someone else will know.

Thank you Resa! I went back but the dresser was gone. Guess it wasn’t meant to be. I picked up a cool bassinet that I have plans for as a planter. Dressers are a lot easier to find than bassinets so all in all I’m happy!

Thank you Vashti! I actually went back today but the dresser was gone, as were the sleds and a few other things I had my eye on. I did pick up a wooden bassinet I’m planning on using as a planter, so I’m happy :).
