I’ve come to the conclusion I’m a bit of a button freak. There’s something about them that appeals to me. I think it’s the endless possibilities they create for decorating or updating an old jacket or blouse, and lately I’ve been seeing so many that are so darn cute and creative.
I spent about an hour a few months ago at just browsing through some buttons, some of which I’ve used in this bouquet. Back in May, I made a cute button bouquet and I have to say it was one of the easiest and most fun projects I’ve ever done. (If you want to see that bouquet and get the ‘how-to’ on how to make one, click on over to here.)
For this bouquet, I took an inexpensive glass vase and covered it with string and some ‘perfect for Fall’ burlap ribbon using plain white glue to adhere it.
Here’s the other side of the bouquet and as you can see I used some felt ‘buttons’, which come in a pack at Joanne’s or Michael’s and are super inexpensive.
This is a great project for kids, and in fact I did some ‘flowers’ with my sister-in-law’s 10 year old granddaughter and she really enjoyed the process. Something about picking out which buttons go with each other gets the creative juices flowing and really makes children feel like they have an input in the end result.
Do you think this would make a cute holiday gift for children to give to an Aunt or Grandparent?

I think it would be a great gift! I’m very much a button lover. When my four year old granddaughter comes over, she always wants me to get out my big button jar. She happily plays for hours!

Brenda, now that you mention it, I recall you wrote a lovely post about that a couple of months ago. At 4, she’s too young to do the wiring, but I bet she would love coming up with the combinations of buttons. The little girl I did it with came up with about four people and we made one ‘flower’ for each; her mom, her sister and two friends. I let go of my tendency to want things to be ‘just so’ and let her do whatever she wanted. She was very proud and happy to give it to them. I think it would be a fun thing for you to do with your granddaughter on her next visit, and she could give it to her mom for Christmas perhaps.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting and have a great weekend! xxx

Doreen, I just adore this and think it would make a wonderful gift! Your inspiration to me here is just perfect, because I brought home literally thousands of vintage buttons that belonged to my mother-in-law…and now I know what to do with them! Plus, it will be another pretty tribute to her, too! 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing, just love it! Pinning! Have a happy Saturday and a fantastic weekend!
