I love putting together a pretty table, but I think I enjoy putting together Autumn tables most of all. Maybe it’s because they lend themselves so well to the warm tones that I’m drawn to. The golds, coppers and bronzes reflect both a sophisticated and cozy feeling which I love.
Almost everything on this table came from Pier I, by far one of my favorite places to wander. They have a beautiful selection of just about anything you might need to complete your table, from dishes to the all important accessories.
Now about those accessories…aren’t these napkin rings pretty?
This simple but elegant stemware had to come home with me! The ‘cracked’ glass looks so pretty I just couldn’t resist…so I didn’t!
I also picked up a centerpiece that coordinated with the glassware. I prefer centerpieces that can be left on the table without interfering with anyone seeing each other, and this fit the bill nicely. This is a fairly small table as well, and a large centerpiece might look overwhelming. If you love tall centerpieces (who doesn’t?), a good option would be to simply remove it and place it somewhere else just before your guests are seated.
This unique ladle was a gift our daughter gave us from a trip to Vietnam, one of her favorite travel destinations.
The salad plates have a cute little pumpkin shape, making them perfect for an Autumn or Thanksgiving dinner. As cute as they are, I almost wish they had the same design as the dinner plates so they could be used year round.
Of course, no table would be complete without a salt and pepper set!
I’ve had this sterling flatware for ages! Over 20 years ago I worked as a Bridal Consultant at Macy*s and one of the perks was getting first dibs on sale items. Coupled with the employee discount, I was able to get lots of things I normally wouldn’t have been willing to pay full retail for.
I’m still debating whether or not to paint this table. I have MMSMP in Ironstone at the ready in case I get the urge to have at it. One of my favorite paint projects was this cabinet, which was also the first time I used milk paint. It’s in our master bath and every time I go to the bathroom it’s right in front of me and it makes me smile. Beats reading The Wall Street Journal ;).

In other news…
It’s windy and cold here today! We’ve already lost power a few times, but thankfully not for long. The rest of the week should be a bit warmer.
Remember my Birth Certificate debacle (scroll to the bottom of that post so you know what I’m talking about)? Well, I think I may finally have gotten that resolved, although I still don’t have one yet. Stay tuned and fingers crossed.

That is just a beautiful table for two, Doreen! Gorgeous!!!! I love Fall tables, too…there is just something rich and warm about them!
Hope you get the birth certificate thing all straightened out. xo Diana

Beautiful tablescape! Love the elements from Pier 1. One of my fav places too. The napkin rings are exquisite. I’m on the fence about the table It does kind of fade into the wood of the walls, yet it has gorgeous patina. White, however, would really make it stand out. Hard decision!

Doreen says
That’s EXACTLY how I feel Brenda. I do like the patina, but it does get lost against the walls. I’ve tried to compensate as much as possible with linens, curtains, etc. but I’m not loving it. I thought about just doing the base of the table, but the top is fairly damaged so I’m not sure. If I do paint it, I think lots of distressing would be in order so some of the wood still shows. I may also leave the chairs as they are.

So many things to love on this table, Doreen…the gorgeous ladle from Vietnam, the pumpkin salad plates, the sterling. I love the entire look!

Yay! I have the cracked glasses too from Pier One and love how they catch the light. Love this table you set (want to steal your silverware) and your photos and have to pin to my Tablescape board.

Ha! I was just there yesterday and looked at this exact table setting for myself! I was roaming around looking for some white pumpkins (they only had orange glittered), and they pointed me in the direction of this table setting.lol They thought I could use the white pumpkin soup tureens, but they were too big for this small house with limited storage. I LOVE how you put this all together, (and I also looked at those cracked glass pieces). lol
Great minds and all that. π

What a beautiful romantic table scape for two! You did an amazing job. Love the napkin rings and really love the plates. I agree, while the pumpkin salad plate is oh so festive, it is too bad it can’t be used during other times of the year! One suggestion, when you have a round table, I find it is fun to use round placemats. You avoid the corners of the square hanging over the edge.
I do hope you had a very romantic dinner at this table and followed up with some cuddling by the fire! xo Diane

This is simply gorgeous, Doreen! The gold makes it so festive and romantic. I added touches of it to my Christmas decor last year and I never thought to look at Pier 1. I have to hop over there soon. Love everything and thanks for the inspiration!

Doreen – I think your table would look awesome painted. Distressing would increase the warmth of it too. Maybe adding an antique glaze over the white paint? You might need an inexpensive table to practice on!

This is a lovely tablescape and that last picture where we can see your cottage makes it all the more romantic.

Oooohhh!!! The napkin rings remind me of the beautiful vintage brooches you see that were worn by the ladies all dressed up in their finery back in the day! So pretty! And what a pretty centerpiece with the ruffly foundation! The pillow in the chair is a beauty, too!
I still just love it that you live in an actual log house! The way you have set this table just softens the whole room and makes it even prettier.

Your fall tablescape is ever so pretty! Love the fall colors and those napkin holders are over the top gorgeous! I don’t think I would paint the table top, I’m not a fan of painted tops. I would stain the dark a dark walnut and the bottom a old white. The white on the bottom would break the all warm wood look, it will help lighten the area below the table. I think the darker top will pull out the lighter woods.

I agree that Pier One has the prettiest dishes and table accessories. I love your table setting! The little pumpkin shaped plates and the turkey salt and pepper shakers are so cute. Your table is pretty in it’s natural wood tone. I’m not sure if I would paint it.

A beautifully styled table, Doreen, and perfectly accentuated for the season with little touches of glimmer in the gold. I love gold and white together, and happen to think that white is just as elegant and rich as its sparkly partner. Your tablescape is cozy, inviting and radiantly romantic! Enjoy and thanks for sharing all the loveliness.
