I took a break from sewing bags the other day and finished up this pillow I’ve been meaning to get to for a few weeks. As you may know, I’ve become a huge fan of YouTube, and one of my favorite people to watch is Debbie Shore. Her tutorials are easy to understand and her style is relaxed yet professional. I’ve used her instructions for many of the bags I have made, but this pillow was a slight departure from her norm and I think it’s a home run.
I’m not going to provide a step-by-step because I’m pretty sure Debbie’s video would be all you would need to complete this easy project, so if you’re interested here you go:
The only change I made was the density of the pompoms. I thought Debbie’s were a bit flimsy, so I doubled the amount of yarn used. The stems are also made of yarn and were the most time consuming part of this project. It’s a fairly mindless process though, so you can easily do it while watching tv like I did.
I used an inexpensive drop cloth for the main fabric, and I was happy to find some piping in my stash that matched the yellow yarn perfectly, so all in all it was a pretty cheap project!
In other news…
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen a few of the bags I’ve made lately, but in case you don’t let me brag on myself a bit and show you my favorite bag to date:
I guess you can tell I have a thing for pompoms lately. But seriously, how cute is this fabric?? It was a sample drapery fabric that was in the clearance section so I won’t be able to get any more of it. I think I’ll put it in a shadow box and stare at it all day. 😉
This cutie drops by every day to say ‘hi’ (or maybe to eat our ubiquitous clover). I took this shot with my phone and noticed it looks really fake. It’s completely unedited. Weird, huh?
No big plans for the weekend, but that suits me just fine. I’ve got bags to sew after all!

Hi Doreen, Love your Pom Pom pillow. Great color for Pom poms and piping. Really pretty for summer. Out of all your bags my favorite is this one. We have a baby rabbit living in our flower beds, so cute. Wishing I could get a pic like you did! Enjoy your weekend…….

That bag is to die for! Yes, I love all things tassel and pompom right now too. 🙂

Oh Doreen… I LOVE Debbie Shore! She is my most favorite seamstress on YouTube that I watch and I’ve been watching her channel ever since DAY ONE. I’ve watched every one of her videos (some more than once). I just love HER too and her dog in the earlier videos. I have so many of her projects saved so that I can make them one of these days. She’s so classy and her tutorials are so clear and neat to follow. Your pom pom pillow is darling. I keep forgetting how neat dropcloth projects are.. looks so rustic and yet like linen. Bags, and pillows and pom poms… oh my! So much to do….. so little time. I also love making fabric gift bags with ribbon ties.. and now am into the lined drawstring gift bags too. My poor sewing machine sits all alone on the floor right now.. have been too busy to do much with it, but I sure want to. Soon.. very soon.
Have a nice upcoming weekend! Hugs.. Marilyn

A beautiful pillow, and you did good going heavier on the pompoms to give them more ‘oomph’. The pompom perfection, also evident in your bag is very pretty and feminine. So, when is the big opening – of your wares??!!

you just blow me away.
actually I like your pillow better than Debbie’s. I mean the shape suits the design better I think.
and…
where in the world have I been?? I didn’t know you had Instagram! now I can’t wait to look at it all.
yes… clear back from the beginning!
and btw I can’t comment on there. it’s a long story having to do with the local library and a class I took there.
he had us sign in and start an account. I had no idea what I was doing then. (as if I do now) but I can’t find the name I gave it.
and now every time I sign in it either says my password is wrong or that I already have an account.
I have tried to start a new account and I get the same thing… one or the other. I will go and give that library guy a piece of my mind!
and now to your Instagram. see ya! XOXO♥

That pom pom pillow is adorable! Love the tote too.

Love the pillow. It looks very professional with the piping and pom ppl trim. That bag is adorable! I wouldn’t want to use it either, for fear of getting it dirty! It’d make a cute clutch as is, but those bags are so useful for so many things. I carry separate bags within my purse/travel tote for things like cords, meds, and makeup, esp when taking trips. Even have a separate one for flea market/yard sale necessities (tape measure, loop, tags, marker, etc).

It might not be long until I’m watching the Oscars or the Emmys and I see a celebrity being interviewed and after she says who she’s wearing she will also point out her perfectly chic bag–by Doreen, of course!
Maybe you can ask Amy how to break into the Emmys–all it would take would be one Doreen bag on an arm and they would become a must have. Talk about cottage industry, you would have one then for sure!
Deb @ Frugal Little Bungalow says

That is the cutest pillow, Doreen. Love the cheerful pom poms. It look sweet sitting there on your chair. And I love the latest bag you made, sooooo cute. You are really a good seamstress, ya know? I can’t believe this bunny comes by every day around your neck of the woods. I see them on the trail sometimes, and they get so scared and seldom sit still for more than a few seconds.
Have a relaxing weekend. Sometimes having no big plans makes a great weekend. : )
