The blogosphere is a beautiful thing. There are blogs that will inspire you with stunning photos and eloquent writing. There are blogs that will teach you how to whip up a gourmet meal in a NY minute. There are blogs that will show you how to build a 4000 sq. ft. home out of a few pallets…
And then there is my blog.
This is where you get to meet Chuckie.
It doesn’t get any better than this people. Let me ‘splain.
Years ago when our daughter was small, we bought her a large doll, aka Chuckie. (I think you can figure out why we were inspired to name him that.) Well, she hates dolls. She hates them now and she hated them then.
My mother had one of those dolls made that was suppose to look like her. It creeped her out. She hated it.
And she hated Chuckie.
So Chuckie was banished from the playroom and spent many lonely days in the attic, wondering what on earth he might have done to deserve such treatment.
Feeling guilty, and in need of a way to make it look like someone was home when we were away, I would take Chuckie from the attic and place him on the sofa so his silhouette was visible from the street behind the sheer drapes. With a head his size it was an easy sell.
One day we came home and found Chuckie no longer had his body and there was a large scar on his face. When we asked him what happened, he simply said ‘you should see the other guy’. So now Chucky is just a big head.
When our daughter comes home to visit, I put Chuckie on her bed to freak her out. Yeah, I’m a mean, sadistic Mom.
Chuckie now follows us around pretty much everywhere. Here he is at our weekend place, relaxing near the fireplace…
You might remember Fisherman said my ruffled pillow looked like a doll’s body (gotta love ’em), so Chuckie felt it was his duty to oblige.
Here he is waiting for us to come to bed…
And here he is patiently waiting for dinner…
He even managed to grab a bottle of vino when our backs were turned. Pretty impressive for a head. He wasn’t too happy when we told him he was too young to indulge. He kinda went ‘Chuckie’ on us, and beat Fisherman over the head with his fishing pole.
The guy at the emergency room didn’t believe me. Go figure.
Chuckie doesn’t know it, but his most important job is yet to come.
Our daughter recently got engaged and she wants me to make a broach bouquet for her like the one pictured. I think Chuckie is just the right size. I think I’ll cover him up with fabric, stick a few dozen pins in him and call it a day. I think he deserves a prominent place at her wedding, and it’s the least we can do for him after all he’s been through.
She doesn’t read my blog so let’s keep this our little secret, ok?

Cynthia Hankin says
oh dear, I hope Chucky won’t fight back when you start sticking him with pins!

LOL, that is way too funny! I don’t know whether to feel sorry for your daughter when she discovers Chuckie as her broach bouquet or join in on your plot with delight….oh what the heck – I’ll join in! Hysterical! 🙂

We never really found out Whitney! He didn’t want to talk about it. I guess he was so humiliated about the entire ordeal, which is quite understandable, don’t you agree? How would you feel if you lost your body during a scuffle of some sort??
I have my own theory though. One night while sleeping he was apparently having a nightmare and kept screaming DIE KRUGER, DIE!! My guess is Freddy was the culprit, but I doubt we will ever know for sure.

One of the funniest blog posts I’ve read in a long time!! I love the broach bouquet idea… but maybe you should make a back-up bouquet just-in-case. We don’t want some poor single bridesmaid smacked in the head with Chuckie! She could be emotionally scarred for life!
Elizabeth Maness says
That is the sweetest Idea.. I love broach bouquet ! I have another daughter that will marry in a few years. I need to think of something like this to do for her!

Soooo funny! Still laughing…and can’t wait to share with my granddaughter! She thinks I have a strange sense of humor! Ha! Wait till she hears about ‘Chuckie’!!!
Jackie Harder says
Hilarious! But I still want to know what happened to the rest of him and how he got the scar. Do tell! P.S. I love your FB tips. I used the one about drops of oil on the inside of the toilet paper roll. Very cool!

Oh my gosh – I am laughing out loud. The photo of him in the bed is hysterical. I’m SURE you will post if you actually DO use his head for a pin-cushion, I mean… broach bouquet! ;D

Thanks for the chuckle! lol

Interestingly enough, the name “Chuckie” still gives me the shivers from the old school movies. Brrrrr…

Oh you have to do it now, Doreen! Please keep us posted!

Oh My gosh! I love this! We used to hide a Mc Donalds toy, “Jasmine” around the house and it would freak my daughter out! She would hide it, we would hid it! I haven’t seen “Jasmine since our last move! I will have to hunt her down!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful story!

I’m w Edmund – chucky and his scar are reminding me of the old school movie – lol! Enjoy the planning process – I’m thinking chucky might have to be wrapped in a box at the shower too :)!

I’m dying here! That’s hysterical, or creepy, or both…I can’t decide!!

I am laughing out loud right now! This is absolutely hysterical! Oh I’d love to see the look on your daughter’s face when Chuckie reappears on the broach bouquet!! This is a family story that you should make a book about…I’d be willing to bet generations to come will be laughing about this as well!! So glad you joined the link party! Love this post!!
Doreen Sargente says
Thanks Michelle and congrats on your first linky! It is funny, isn’t it?! I hope I can pull it off!
Btw, I notice there’s a line through the link for your party. Not sure what that is all about but it’s the third time it’s happened. I will try to fix it.

This is too funny! Hated the movie Chuckie because it scared the bejeesus out of me when I was a kid. For a minute I thought your Chuckie might have some PTSD from being stowed away in the attic for so long and was wondering where this story might go. But it seems like you have made it up to him and given him a prominent place in the family. That’s all he ever really wanted, right? Well good luck to Chuckie! Maybe you could do him one better and finally give him the body he deserves. You could have a party for him to celebrate! Anyways, I think I am getting carried away here. Great post!
Joell @ Red Van Ramblings says
That is HILARIOUS! I bet Chuckie woud make a fantastic brooch bouquet! And then after the fact, you tell your daughter! She will hate you and then she will laugh hysterically with glee that Chuckie had to suffer. Ha! Great post! Visiting via Throwback Thursday. 🙂
Sarissa says
YOU”RE CAUGHT! I will not carry a Chuckie head down the isle.
Doreen@househoneys says
Foiled again! Ok, ok, how about we get creative and turn his head upside down and use the opening of his neck for the moolah you get?
Don’t you think he deserves a place of honor at your wedding? Just look at that face!
And what are you doing reading old posts anyway??!

Like everyone else I can not stop smiling and laughing. Love to laugh. This is truly a classic. Thank-you for sharing the cabin pictures. Very kind of you. Lots of hard work and love as I can see went in to the cabin. Your site is wonderful, cannot say enough good things about it. Only wish I was as creative as you are. Again, thank-you for the laughter and smiles. Lynda in Wa. state.
