Ok, I know Christmas is over and most of us are ready to move on, but a couple of weeks ago I showed you this year’s Gingerbread House and mentioned I would post some pics of the houses our grandson and I have made over the years. I think it’s fun to look at how far he’s come! He is now 9, and I think we started when he was 4 but we didn’t save the first two.
Please excuse the poor quality of the pictures. I forgot my camera last weekend when we were at the cabin where these are kept so I made the most of what I had.
For this one I thought I would show the roof a bit more. It’s made of very thin wafer cookies and sprinkled with lots of coarse sugar. I sprayed the cookies with adhesive spray which obviously is not recommended if you’re going to eat the house, but we save them.
For this year, I have a confession. I did most of the work on this one. I think he’s humoring me and has lost interest in this activity so this year may be the last time we’ll do this. I’m not storing this one. In fact, I gave it away to a young lady with two small children.
Here’s a not so great pic of the houses and where they’re stored. I’m amazed that they’ve held up so well!
Have you ever decorated a Gingerbread House? It’s addicting!

We decorated a ginger bread house this year because the kit was on sale. 🙂 My girls (4 and 2) enjoyed it for a while, and then the 4-year-old got more interested in eating the candy than putting it on the house. 🙂 I think we’ll probably eat the house here, but that’s cool you’ve kept yours. A fun tradition with your grandson! 🙂

Hi Doreen,
Well, it’s almost year into the future here today, but I just saw your Throwback Thursday post today and thought I’d leave a comment on the original! These are adorable, and more so because you constructed them together with your sweet grandson! I noticed that the two older ones of the bunch don’t seem to have icicles; wondering if you had a milder Christmas those two years!

Good morning Poppy! (Or perhaps I should say late afternoon?). It was lovely to wake up to your sweet comments today. I didn’t know you participate in Throwback Thursday too! Small world.
You’re very observant about the icicles. Alas, it had more to do with skill level than the weather. 😉
